I go here for $5.00 Wednesday which is pretty awesome as mainstream flicks are sometimes screened and you can then watch it for $5.00 or $6.00 if you book your ticket online. I tend to buy my ticket in person and just go a little earlier to secure my favourite seat. Popcorn, ice cream and other snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available to purchase. There is no lift unfortunately.
My favourite little cinema in Auckland. A true underground experience, and an establishment run by genuine film enthusiasts. The passion for curating unique cinematic experiences that I feel here never wanes. Thank you Academy!
My personal most-visited place in Auckland. Spent some quality time here. Watched some real good old film here that I wouldn’t have chosen to watch otherwise on my own, that I’m really glad they showed it and I came. And also some really awful films as well lol. Well, that’s the chance.
Great little movie theater I've live my whole life in aucklsnd I never once knew about this movie theatre till my mate told me about it. Great food Great drinks and cheap as tickets on a Wednesday only 5 bucks. And I love it how they play 70s 80s and 90s movies there. I went just tonight to go sew the first alien 1979 then stayed and saw the second alien called aliens 1986 with my mate had such a fun time. If your on holiday in nz abd staying in auckland I highly recommend you visit this cinema you won't Regret it.
You would be thinking why is there so many dog photos in this review? The reason is that it was the first time dogs were allowed to watch movies with their owners and this event took place at Academy Cinemas in Auckland City. It was a full house and what a cool movie it was 'Secrets Life of Pet 2'. All the dogs and their owners had so much fun. You wouldn't believe how quite it was throughout the movie. You could buy ticket for your fur baby or they could sit on your lap or on the floor. I believe there will be more movies for the owners to bring their pet. Ticket was $20. So cool. As you can drr from the picture there were all types of dogs. This historic moment was covered by local TV station as well. Would you bring your dog next time if there is a movie where you can bring your fur baby?
A nice alternative to big chain cinemas, it’s a five star venue as the tickets are very cheap and the selection of films is good. Don’t expect fancy interiors or a mind-blowing screens, this is a laid-back place offering an easy and financially accessible night out
A hark back to that old cimera days. A secluded feeling as you enter the foyer which has popcorn and drinks available. We went for a private function and had a brilliant evening.
Great line up of films showing, good drinks selection
Auckland best kept secret! Friendly staff, smaller more personalized cinema that can comfortably cater for small-medium group bookings. Won't be my last time visiting here that's for sure. Psst: You MUST try their Apple Crumble icecream-choc dipped waffle cones simply the best. Thanks for the most enjoyable outing.
Went on a Wednesday, they play movies for $5 and its very cheap. The audio and visuals were really good but the seats were a bit uncomfortable.
