Story

Looking for organically grown, nutrient dense, well priced veggies and microgreens in the Tauranga area? Abundant Backyard is a new partnership set up to provide exactly that. Horticulturalist Silvio Maffra, Permaculture teachers Catherine and Neville Dunton-McLeod, have joined forces.
Over the last three months, we’ve been putting in place systems so that our veggies are spray free, fresh and highly nutritious; our customers are well taken care of; the land and the people involved are renewed and not, “run into the ground.”
We make all our choices based on these three ethics are: People Care, Earth Care, and Fair Share. Think about it. If our decisions are good for all the people involved (customers, gardeners, partners), good for the earth (soil, water, microbes, worms, atmosphere) and sustainable so that we take what we need to support the partnership and share the rest at fair prices, then Abundant Backyard should be an enduring, ethically based jewel of a business.
As this is our first year, we’re still working out what we grow best in our poly house and outdoor gardens located in Whakamarama. We are talking constantly with our customers, asking for feedback about what they need and our taste, prices and service. You will soon see us at markets around the Tauranga area. Watch this space!
