I visited the Women's and Children's Hospital on 15 January 2025 and came to the Cafe located at 2nd Floor for grabbing some food in the late afternoon for my daughter.nnHappy to see it's still open at 5 pm, and in fact it closes at 7pm daily. This Cafe have many dining tables and chairs, perhaps this Cafe equals to a hospital staff canteen if there is no other restaurant available. There were quite many choices of sandwiches, pre-packed salad, fruit, snacks and even some pre-cooked hot dishes. Canned and bottled drinks are available including fruit juices and milk. They have a coffee bar so you can grab an ordinary coffee from here too.nnNo cash payment and this has been sign-posted everywhere in the Cafe. In case you are visiting this hospital after 7pm, there are several vending machines located outside the Cafe at Level 2 and a few situated along the corridor at G/F just next to the Paediatric Emergency Department. The vending machines provide sandwiches, cup noodles, nut bars and snacks. The prices are very reasonable, especially the prices for sandwiches range from $4 to $7 only. I am not sure where you can get hot water for the cup noodles if you are a visitor like me. I guess you can get it from the coffee machines which are located at both G/F and 2/F.nnThe hospital opens 24/7. Just in case you need to visit this hospital in the mid-night and trying to find some food nearby, perhaps you can grab some food like hot pies, pastries, donuts or cakes from the nearby 10 minutes walk Bakery on O'Connell which is a bakery opening 24/7 as per their website. Unbelievable to me for seeing a restaurant opens 24/7 in this quiet city which is not Macca's or Burger King.
Toke my younger brother here due to some burns at mid night around 2AM. one of the nurse toke details and gave some pain killers. There was nurses walking around but no one bother to advise us when can we expect some help. I was thinking maybe staff was waiting for their shift to end so they can go home. One of the nurse said the doctor will come and see us. We waited until 5AM for the doctor. No sign of doctor until 5 Am. I was so sleepy. unsure why they did not gave any timeframes of when the doctor might come.nNote: anyone visiting emergency at night might be waiting for 3 hours as per my personal experience.
We can’t speak highly enough about the midwives and doctors at the WCH Adelaide. My wife and I had our second daughter born here, we always felt cared for and the staffs were very supportive, nfriendly and professional. We are grateful for the care we received and would like to shout out to India, Mira and all the other nurses and doctors who had helped us.nThe wait could be long and understandable as this is a public hospital and I wish this can be improved in the future.
Amazing service by lovely and very knowledgeable midwives and doctors. Waiting times could be extended but they always gave appropriate attention when it’s really needed. I agree the parking is hard, but it’s mostly for long term patients and parents so can’t really complaint.nnAs a researcher my self, I appreciate the efforts the staff take to focus on educating parents rather than treating and letting go.nnStaff of all responsibilities were kind, respectful and supportive.
I couldn’t speak more highly of the care we received for our pregnancy from the Midwives and Doctors at WCH.nnWhen I went into labor I felt I was assessed and taken to the birthing suite as quickly as they could, considering capacity etc.nnOur midwife in the birthing suite Glenice came with a lot of experience which I felt made delivery safe and as comfortable as possible. She also understood what an important moment it was for us and made sure we had plenty of time to catch our breath and take it all in.nnWe were discharged quickly by choice, but the Midwife in the Postnatal ward made sure we had lots of follow up support by means of Midwife visits to our home.nnI can’t fault the service provided by both the hospital and SA Health and would return if we’re lucky enough to have no.2.
