Quite small for a zoo but still plenty of animals on offer for viewing. Very educational and is a pleasant walk of about 2 to 3 hours for the whole place. Nice for families with small kids or primary schools on a school trip.
I accidentally booked tickets thinking this was the Sydney zoo in western Sydney. It was a happy accident! We got a discount on the tickets through my NRMA membership. It was a great day out with my father, and sisters family with three kids. It's fun for all ages. We got off the train at wynyard, it was mostly undercover for the walk down. Lots of escalators to make to walk easier. Coffee shops on the way. The zoo is inside and perfect for a hot day. We arrived about 12pm. The animals were being fed at this time. They were very active, easy to see and we got to see the keepers in the exhibits feeding the animals. This was our Christmas present to our family and a great day out making memories together. We saw the baby koala up close. The canteen does not accept cash and was very expensive. I recommended bringing your own food and drinks
There are informative talks by the zoo keepers during weekends only, on other days you can scan a QR code for more info on the animals and watch the TV screens. It's located conveniently in Darling Harbor. For some of the animals, you do have to try really hard to look for them, some of them are sleeping or hiding. You wont be able to see wombat, I think they might be sleeping during the day. There is an area which says Wombat cave? But its total darkness, can't see a thing. Perhap a screen with a live night vision camera or thermal imaging camera can assure visitors there are indeed wombats in that dark abyss. Similarly in the creatures in the dark section, its very dark. Is that a rock or is that an animal? Night vision camera, thermal imagining camera, maybe more dim glow, surely there are glow worms in nature. My favourite spots are the wallabies area, kangaroos area and the koalas area. You have places to sit, relax, chill and enjoy watching the animals doing their own things without care and you quickly forgets you are in the middle of a busy city.
I used to go here a lot when my kids were really little so thought it'd be a nice treat to go now that they're older. Wasn't like it was though. We all miss the butterfly exhibit and the virtual croc that used to jump out at you. The kids also said that they miss the bats. And it was very sad to read about Rocky dying. Everything else we remember was there and it is a nice, but quite small zoo, for families. Great for out of town visitors who don't have that much time on their hands but are keen to see Australian animals.
Quiet small for a zoo but they have several animals in the venue. The average time to walk around the zoo should be 2 hours. It was the right middle of the city . Thank you to the lovely staff for a great experience Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
Fun place to stop for a couple of hours and see some Aussie wildlife. Cool set up where you can see quite a few famous animals, reptiles, bugs and more. It was a great stop and value in conjunction with the aquarium next door. Recommend for families with kiddos.
Had a great experience. Two really lovely young ladies named Chloe and Jessica took me aside and asked if I would like to feed one of the Cassowary. Very cool bird. They were both very informative and let me feed him a bunch of grapes. Would recommend if you like to get up close and personal with wildlife.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Kangaroo, Koala, Reptiles, and many other cute animals live here. It is a fabulous experience seeing Kangaroos and Koalas in person as our main purpose to visit while we are in Sydney. The location is easy to find. It is a perfect destination for families with children. You can also take some photos with Koala here.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
IMO I suggest purchasing the 2 attractions combo to see the zoo and the aquarium. It’s fair priced and a great deal when you get both. If you’ve never seen a koala or a kangaroo before - this is nice quick way to see some! It’s definitely a smaller zoo so come with that in mind and lower your expectations. I wish there were more staff throughout the zoo to guide where to go. People including myself were a bit confused if we were allowed to open a gate to go to the kangaroo walk because there weren’t any visible signs or staff members at that junction. Then when we went to see the koalas there weren’t any staff & signs to continue to the zoo go down it only said “exit and gift shop” but there was more to see. Before you could hold the koalas and take a picture but now it’s just a “standby close to it” and they will take a picture. I suggest looking at examples before buying your ticket for that. I do understand why the rules changed Estimate 1 hour to see the entire zoo. Overall, good quick experience and priced well for what you see!
Awesome little wildlife park tucked away in Sydney for a few family memories with lovely helpful staff and not as crowded as other tourist destinations in the area. We loved it, and, as it’s not a full day outing, we spent a bit more time at the nearby water park and playground. We booked through a multi-ticket and recommend locking in a visit time beforehand to avoid any queuing.
