Story

Set in an original grain store that was built in 1882, Whitestone City is a central heritage hub that facilitates interactive tours of the Victorian Heritage Precinct.

Fit-out in the style of a colonial town, where activities, displays, merchants and an array of people in costume provide a glimpse of what this Oamaru street would have been like in the town’s early days.

Staff were really lovely & friendly. Was a random thing for us to do and we ended up really enjoying it. Very informative and interactive. The penny farthing carousel was fun, as were the other games and activités to take part in along the way around. Was so so much better than the Steampunk HQ.

Actually really fun.nnNot my normal cup of tea but actually had a great time.nnPlayed some croquet, learnt a bit about the town, and even went on a Penny Farthing Carousel.nnStaff were super friendly and helpful.nnGo here instead of Steampunk HQ.

Whitestone City is an interesting interactive museum opened in about 2019 within an old grain store built in 1882. It features cute displays from Victorian times including a school, a penny-farthing merry go round, shop displays and so much more. My little boy loved the little wooden toys. We paid at the end of the visit via an eftpos machine and the hosts were friendly and welcoming. It is a great addition to the beautiful Victorian street scape.

What a great find! We had no idea what this place was about, but it is fabulous and so interesting. A real must if you're in Oamaru.

Watched a short video on the history of Oamaru which was very interesting.nGreat to walk thru and see some history.
