Story

It is Victoria’s third largest municipality, covering an area of 10,924 square kilometres and is home to 41,355 residents (2011 census) spread across more than 30 different communities.

The Shire comprises of three wards each represented by three councillors (total nine councillors), and employs a workforce of a full time equivalent of 269.88 people (as at 30 June 2013) comprising full time, part time, casual and trainee/apprentice staff.

Wellington Shire is ideally placed for enjoying all that Gippsland has to offer, whether as a resident, visitor or tourist. It extends from the Great Dividing Range and Victoria’s High Country, through rich irrigated flats and some of the most productive grazing land in Australia to the internationally significant Gippsland Lakes and Wetlands and the Ninety Mile Beach and Bass Strait.

Linked to Sydney and Melbourne by the Princes Highway, it also boasts direct links to Canberra and the eastern seaboard of New South Wales.

Wellington has a strong and diverse local economy boasting oil and gas production industries, manufacturing, government, defence, primary industries, forestry, construction and retail industries.

Time and time again Wellington Shire Council impresses us with the speed and diligence shown by the Building Team and the Planning Team - Well done Wellington
Poorly maintained rest areas outside of Sale towards Bairnsdale. Bins all overflowing all over the place. Toilets are shockingly DISGUSTING. Not flushing NOT CLEANED for months they appear to be. A burnt caravan was not cleaned up thoroughly. It appears this rest area has not even been visited by a staff member to do their job. We could not eat our breakfast there with this scenery and moving on to a nicer cleaner place to eat. Check in on your staff’s work!
ALERT FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS - DANGEROUS DOGS: Woodside Beach Wellington Shire Council is responsible for the beach area a small community next to the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park. It has a single caravan park used by families. The park has been used as hunting grounds for Ducks, Stubble Quails and Hog Visitor Deers. Because of that and personal reasons, most community members have guns and major breed dogs. Among other things, one of the major problems of the Woodside Beach is the major breed dogs that terrorize visitor and sometimes locals. For example, I was close to be bitten, twice, by the dogs that live at 5 Rebecca St major brown dog of unknown breed and 7 Rebecca St major black dog of unknown breed. The owners of the dogs often take them to the beach and walk them off-leash I believe the Council authorize dogs off-leash. However, under the Domestic Animal Act VIC, the dog owners needs to have full control f the dogs even off-leash. The owners of the dogs have ZERO control of the dogs and during two occasions during my walks on the beach, the dogs charged me & came very close to my legs showing their teeth and barking loudly. It was extremely scary and if you inform the Woodside Council, they do nothing. If you pass in front of the houses on 5 and 7 Rebecca St, the dogs will bark at you non-stop. Barking is manageable but the problem is the fact that fences at the back of the houses i.e. empty area that connects to Rebecca St have the height of your knees i.e. that is a breach of the Domestic Animal Act VIC and the dogs can go around and bite you, in particular at night when the St is very dark. In addition to the dogs at Rebecca St, there is a Doberman style at 23 Richard Rd, corner Charlotte St. The fences around the house are very low height and the dog always come to the fences barking loudly when you pass by walking. This is scarier. Imagine if you are with your kids at the next door Caravan Park and the dogs charge and bite your kids?
Damo is one my idols, and i wish i ever met the great Damo Allman in person. I'm saddened that his now exploring Zimbabwe for a living. But i still wish to meet him when he returns.
Unfortunately Google will not allow a ZERO star rating witch is truly what Wellington shire council deserve. From past experience and what others have told me the staff are useless all around, self promoting and obsessed with hiking rates up but Don't expect them to offer any justification or reasoning. I have had a guy running a generator to power his house for the past 6 years, council officers contacted my real estate to try and get me evicted for lodging a complaint and they have ignored all my neighbours complaints. Last year a large tree branch fell on a friends car just off the main street in Maffra, She has since had to deal with a clown called Louise at Wellington council and she has just played games with her as they apparently do with anyone who makes any claim against them despite obvious liability. To add one more fine example they have been cutting trees in Newry the past few weeks, blocking bins from being collected laughing and joking about it, yelling and carrying on like idiots through the day. The councillors are a small knish group that are simply playing musical chairs, taking turns to prioritise personal pet projects with no regards for actual residents and be warned If you are living in a rental property you 'don't matter' as a council officer Barry informed me. These guys do a great job of reminding us why the area was better off when they were not around.
disgrace criminals increasing rates by 180%... shame on you, rott in hell
We have just stayed at Reeves beach past few days and its a great place to relax! Spent time at Yarram, Port Welshpool, Port Albert and Bairnsdale, Paynesville. Beautiful country to see, very green and lush. We will be back!
