I was recommended here by a friend who said it was dog friendly, which it is. It is hidden away, but definitely worth looking for. Car parking could be an issue but we were lucky. Really nice atmosphere, LOVELY staff. Inside and outside the dog friendly bit seating. Kids play area Would I go back if I was in the area? Hell, yes.
Had lunch with 12 people. They were really accommodating food was excellent. Large portions and delicious. Dad particularly liked his lambs fry and bacon. The mushrooms were amazing the Blt was awesome the chutney used was delicious needed more help somewhere as the meals coming out were really sporadic and was a long wait for the last meal to arrive but we were not in a hurry and so was no problem and when it came out was perfect. Thanks for making our family lunch a success
Nice place but way expensive and poor prawn salads!!! A little bit of vege salads and nothing special mayo sauce and not big 8pieces of prawn are $32!!!! Very disappointed!!!!!
The owner was serving up front. She was rude to me. I don't feel she should've been there. Plus I had to send something back. That was because poor communication. The food itself was ok. The owner should either take a course first before letting herself loose on customers or else hire someone else for the job, someone who knows what they're doing. I feel sorry for her staff.
Lovely friendly staff. Great seafood chowder and best hot choc I've had for some time. Can even get a wine. Was quite a wet day so unable to sit outside but I imagine it would be lovely.
We have eaten here many times in the past. Today was very disappointing. I ordered the usual lamb fry and bacon. The portion of bacon was tiny and the gravy which is usually lovely was floating in oil and looked as if it had almost split. To add to this they increased their pricing. My husband ordered pancakes. He was given a 1/4 of banana and a tiny piece of bacon with three small pancakes, again price increase to $23. Definitely not value for money.
Really lovely setting that could be so much nicer. Food: Eggs on toast came on a cold plate. Otherwise ok. Dry cheese scone. Decor: old chairs, tables, rusty salt & pepper shakers etc. Give it all a little love and I can imagine it being a lovely spot.
Won’t be back. Asked if they did gluten free toasteds and yes they do. Ordered one and was dubious when it came out so questioned the nice young waitress. She took it away to check and when it was brought back I was told it was molenberg bread and if I wanted gluten free it would cost me an extra $3.00. When I said gluten free was what I had ordered it was rudely implied that I was at fault and that a new one could be made at extra cost. By this time my friend had finished their meal so I politely asked for my money back. Aware mistakes can happen but acceptance and apologies go a long way in this type of business.
It was not value for money. No table service. The food was very average in taste, presentation, and quality and small in portions for the money. Cute building though.Food: 2/5
Slice of old Orewa, tucked away, almost hidden, you wouldn’t know it was there till you’ve been. Lovely outdoor seating under trees - plenty of space to run round. Lunch was yum but serving size has gone down over the years. Muscle fritters and Cesar salad are my picks from this year. Prawn salad was overpriced for what was delivered. We have been coming here for years for Christmas lunch. Very organised for our group of 23 we pre ordered. We all enjoyed our time and the service.
