I have had 3 near death experiences and their services was excellent, the staff were not as rushed as other hospitals, the facilities were nicer than other hospitals and they listened to my opinion about my issues.

Truly only go here if it's an emergency. It's a small town hospital so can only attract the surgical staff that can't get the good surgical jobs in the cities. Front line emergency staff ok so get your issue stabilized and go to Wellington or Christchurch. If you have surgery here count on further complications and lack of support. We live in this town and go elsewhere for any specialist and hospital requirements.

The staff ist very friendly and helpful. Fast and prudent help with a pulled elbow.

If you need to be treated for any medical care go straight away to a Veterinarian it will be faster

While in Blenheim over the New Year we visited Wairau Hospital. I could not believe how a public hospital could look so unkempt and almost like a ghost town. Trying to find my way around was a nightmare. The gates don't have numbers on them even though staff refer to gate numbers. There was no one at the front desk of the main entrance of the hospital to help. Directions are extremely poor and the grounds are an utter disgrace. Time to put a bit of effort into the area and make it look like a hospital that isn't run down, from the outside, giving the impression that it could be the haunted attraction "Spookers". Spookers has better grounds and signage than Wairau Hospital. The photos of Wairau Hospital on the web site are certainly out of date. Staff were pleasant enough but again directions were hard to follow when told to "just go to the end, turn left, half way down turn right and you'll then see it half way down on your right" After passing several doors and alleys we eventually found our destination. There is no over head signage, only signs on or beside the doors in some areas. Having worked at Wairau many years ago I couldn't believe the difference. I have wonderful memories of working at Wairau Hospital. It was a busy well run, will kept institution in those days. Back then I could never have imagined the place to look like it does today.
