Great place to go Surfing. £5 parking for the day is very reasonable. Love being able to get a warm shower afterwards at the onsite changing facility..
Had a group lesson with Simon today. Never done it before and really enjoyed it. Nice set up and Simon was great at getting the salient points across. Really pleased that of the 2h lesson we spent more than 3/4 of it in the water. All staff really helpful and great location.
The boarding experience was great however I found the staff not be be very helpful and in fact pretty rude as well, the hire place is on top of the cliff which meant carrying the board down, I only just managed this with a few breaks, I’m not the biggest or strongest of women and I was by myself, I paid £30 for four hours on the board but decided to go back after 2 hours to get up that dreaded cliff, I tried to get up it with the board however I was struggling so I rang the centre turns out I rang the warehouse I was very polite on the phone to the man, and I even told him I’d try again at getting up the cliff, to be then told by him that it was because I couldn’t be bothered to carry it up on my own! And that the lady who works there Carries them on her own, I respect this and congratulate that woman for being a lot stronger than me! I wasn’t impressed with how I was spoken to and how I had to argue to get some help coming up the cliff, and this ruined the whole experience for me.
Very bad experience at this place today. Arrived at Cayton Bay with my family . There is a toilet outside the surfing Shop available to all public with a small 20p fee to access. One of the staff members a young lady came out of the surfing shop/school to inform me that I can't use the facility because our car wasn't parked there! There were other users who didn't park there either and still used the facility another couple wasn't impressed and praised me for challenging her decision but I was denied using the toilets. Very upsetting ; even my 9-years old son wS disgust. I still don't know what was her intention and why we were treated differently to the rest of the people. ?
I had a beginner coaching session with Harry yesterday, who took me from complete novice to able to stand up and ride waves within the session... A good solid starting point so I can now hire a board or buy one and get out in the waves and stand a decent chance of enjoying myself than landing on my head. I got a really good understanding of what I needed to do to begin surfing within in the couple of hours we spent, with Harry helping identify the issues I was having and offering advice after each wave to get me going. The session was worth every penny. I could maybe have got a board and started trying to surf myself, but getting Harry's coaching means I can get going much faster with better technique and hopefully avoid picking up bad habits. Harry and the other person at the shop were both very friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend getting surfing lessons here enough.
Had beginner course weekend, excellent. Great meeting the friendly, helpful staff there.
got a great wetsuit deal and some fab local surf advice of the lady in the shop 10/10
Had a 1-2 surf lesson for me and my wife. Harry the instructor was excellent, very patient giving plenty of encouragement, tips and advice. Had plenty of time in the water and really enjoyed the lesson. Will definitely be back again. Would highly recommend Scarborough surf school and Harry to anyone wanting to try surfing or looking for improver lessons. 5 stars
I booked a 1 to 1 beginner lesson. Easy booking. Staff very friendly and provide all information you need. No hidden fees. The experience of surfing with Andy the surf instructor was absolutely amazing! I talked Andy through my personal goals and my fears/insecurities, and Andy tailored the lesson towards that. Taught me about how to be safe and how to interpret the sea conditions. Also, helped me catching the waves by physical assisting and/or prompting to paddle on the right time. Andy in a very relaxed and natural way took my mind out of the fear of being swallowed by the bigger waves . Then I felt more and more confident, which enabled me to feel in heaven whilst surfing. Andy even brought my attention to a beautiful baby seal that came near us. I was absolutely delighted! Knowing that I wanted to carry on with learning how to surf and to volunteer and maybe work in this area, Andy told me about what things could I do improve when I am at home far away from the sea and told me about the “Wave Project”. Which I found very helpful and exciting. The waves were beautiful and perfect. It was the first time I surfed green waves and was amazing! This was one of the best days of my life! Thank you to Scarborough Surf School. Thank you Andy, you are a true inspiring Teacher!
Fantastic first surfing experience. The instructor, James, was awesome - getting me from never having touched a surfboard to standing up in a few hours. The whole set up was very friendly and welcoming. If you fancy a stellar surf experience look no further than Scarborough surf school.
