Vicki Field Swim School
"Our swim school program is unique, in that we remove all flotation devices so that our students, both children and adults can learn how to swim naturally. This helps facilitate independence in the water, allowing students to discover their own natural swimming abilities.Developed over 25 years of professional swim coaching, our methodology combines 3 spheres of development, going beyond what other swim schools can offer. We offer swimming lessons at 3 different locations as well,- Wesley College- Belmore School- Boroondara Sports ComplexCome see why John Sugden Swim School is the best choice to teach both children and adults alike."

The teachers and staff are all super lovely, welcoming and accommodating to each child’s needs. New management have already made positive changes to the environment by having the pool completely resurfaced, and have advised of further plans to give the building a much needed face lift! Highly recommend John Sugden Swim School.
I have been with John sugden swim school for almost a year now.. while at first I was extremely nervous as I didn’t know what to expect I can honestly say that I’m so glad I did.. I have found all staff and owner John to be so friendly and supportive and highly skilled.. No question has ever been to silly to ask or have I ever felt that I was unable to ask questions regarding lessons , teachers or payment methods.. I have found under new management at kilsyth to be a breath of fresh air.. The water and pool is beautiful to swim in and I find all teachers understanding and current staff open to this change.. The techniques used although may seem odd to some I can 100 per cent assure you are fantastic to learn and are always done safely and most importantly are done in a fun environment.
It’s interesting to read other parents reviews. I think we forget that swimming is a life skill. It is a matter of swim or drown! There is a time for teachers to demand that children act in a certain matter in the pool and allow children to feel a bit of fear around the water. My first class there was absolutely horrible but I trusted the instructors process. My daughter knows how to scream a room down and she gave the pool hell. However I’m saying that the teacher was able to build that trust with my daughter through this process and I wouldn’t take my daughter anywhere else now. The level of maturity that my daughter now shows around water, how to enter the pool safely, not to enter without an adult and also how to manage when your legs are tired. Yes the teachers are strict on the children but god at least I know my daughter is safer around water. Read the stats on drowning and then decide if you will let your children cry for a minute. Couldn’t recommend highly enough especially for parents struggle with their children needing some tough love
My child recently attended this swim school, and he developed anxiety attending. He stated that the owner was rude and yelling at the children. She also swore at the children during a session. My son is not a sensitive child to being told off, but he didn't want to go to his lessons all week. He asked not to go as the owner instructor made a child cry. I thought it may be that she was just firm with the children, but other parents have come forward and made comments that their child felt the same and they did not want to attend swimming. My son also stated that the place is disgusting with mold growing on the roof etc. I work with a woman who I spoke with about this and she stated that her now 16-year-old daughter used to hate going when she had to attend during school swimming. At the time she also asked not to attend and now when they drive past the swim school she will say "look there is the horrible swim school is went to. "that must say something.
I’m writing this as I’m incredibly disappointed with the behaviour of some of the instructors at this school. My daughter attend the classes as part of their schooling and today was humiliated in front of everyone. My daughter expressed that she would like to progress to higher levels. Instead of acting like an adult and speaking to a child, like a child, they made a sarcastic comment to one of the other instructors in front of everyone. To paraphrase “Lets move daughter to this class, because you get what you want if you cry”. What kind of adult behaves like this? My other younger daughter also expressed to me that one of the instructors told her “stop crying, we don’t cry here”. She’s only 6 years old and she’s anxious about learning how to swim. A bit of compassion would go a long way. To the owners of the establishment, what kind of environment are you encouraging here? For what should be a process educating and training the children on safety, you’re creating an environment of the opposite. I’m overall left with a really disgusted impression based on the behaviour of some of the instructor here and do not recommend.
I couldn’t be more happy with the improvement John Sugden Swim School has made. After hearing they are going to fix pervious problems the old owners left I recommend enrolling your child here!I changed my review which was a complaint for the old owners
My school went here for swimming lessons, 2022, and 2023, 2022 was fine and my swimming got better through out the time. But in 2023, I was extremely disappointed. One of the swimming instructors body shamed a student in 2022. The next year 2023 Someone embarrassed the youngest kid in front of their whole group. I am extremely disappointed. The swimming instructors a mean, and the walls are all. Rusty. And there is no life guard. The place is a mess. Please do not go!
I love the approach the teachers use to teach my kids to learn to swim. They are always encouraging while helping them to improve their technique. My son in particular always hated swimming lessons at his old school, now he asks to go and wants to go everyday! So glad we found Vicki Field’s Swim SchoolPositiveQuality, Professionalism
My kids first went to Vick Field Swim School for school swimming. The staff were very respectful of the way their swim school at the time had taught them and were very professional in the way they approached teaching my kids without undermining their swim teachers at the time. I decided to move my kids from where they were to Vicki's and have now been their for 3 years. I only wish we had made the move sooner - amazing and friendly staff.
After learning to swim at a different swim school, my 9 yr old daughter was excited to try Vicki's when she went there with her primary school. But when the Vicki swim teacher found out my daughter had swimming lessons elsewhere, she took is upon herself to pick on my daughters technique and constantly told her she was "doing it wrong" and made comments like "I can't believe that is her dolphin kick" that the other kids heard. The Vicki swim teacher was destroying my daughters swimming confidence. I pulled her out of the school program after the second lesson. It was appalling behavior from the Vicki teacher and I will strongly encourage the primary school to go elsewhere for their swimming program.
