Aslaam O Alaikum,nI drove nearly an hour to attend a lecture at Umma Mosque Doncaster. The lecture itself was excellent — the imam delivered a beautiful and insightful talk and invited everyone to stay for dinner afterward.nHowever, my experience during dinner was quite disappointing. When I went to get food, I noticed some people giving me strange looks, as if I didn’t belong there. I was told not to take food from a certain area and to join the queue instead, which I did. I then sat down in the same area where other guests were seated, but again felt unwelcome due to the way some people were looking at me. It was uncomfortable and felt very un-Islamic, especially in a place that should embody hospitality and equality.nThe food itself was delicious, and I really appreciated the effort of those who prepared it. However, when I went to get a little more, the person serving seemed reluctant and only gave me a small amount of meat with mostly rice. I tried again, but the same unwelcoming attitude continued. It felt as though I was being judged simply for wanting a bit more food, which was very disappointing and not in the spirit of our faith.nOverall, while the lecture was great, the attitude and behaviour of some of the management or volunteers during dinner were disheartening. I hope the mosque’s management can address this and foster a more welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who visits, regardless of whether they’re part of a local group or a guest from elsewhere.
UMMA Centre is a wonderful hub for the Muslim community in Doncaster and the eastern suburbs. There’s usually ample parking for regular prayers, though it can get quite full on Jum’ah. The facilities are excellent, with good Wi-Fi, clean toilets, and a well-maintained separate prayer area for sisters. The centre also has a large hall that’s often used for youth sports and community programs, making it more than just a place of worship. Overall, it’s a great space for prayer, learning, and connecting with the community.
This is the heart of Doncaster. Such a beautiful place of worship and a centre for the Muslim community in the east. InsyAllah this place continues to grow and bring in many new worshipers. Hopefully more mosques in the eastern suburbs can also be established such as areas like Ringwood and Croydon.
Cozy place for prayer with available parking. Nice to see kids playing in the badminton court.
Friday 3 Oct 2025, first Juma is at around 1pm and the second Juma around 2pm. Given daylight savings this weekend, I assume the Juma time will change to 2pm and 3pm.
