Town hall station is one of the major hub of Sydney trains. Well connected and signposted to buses and always seems to be tidy. Walk straight into the QVB can be a bonus, especially when the weather is no good. And don’t forget access to Woolworths is available from the concourse as well. Good station to get off for most locations in the city.
A train station is just that, a train station but once you go upstairs it opens up into multiple shops with food, drinks, desserts, shopping etc. Many different varieties of food especially Asian cuisine. And you’re also in the city, so that’s a big bonus. The usual tap on and tap off, via your phone or Opal card. Not hard to get around, quite easy to follow the signs. Also plenty of staff around you can just ask.
I recently encountered a deeply frustrating experience at one of Sydney’s busiest train station. Upon arrival on Monday, 21st April, I discovered that lift to platform 3 from concourse were not operational. As a parent with a pram, I was left with no choice but to physically carry it upwards multiple flights of stairs to reach the platform. This not only posed a safety risk but also highlighted a significant oversight in accommodating passengers with mobility needs.nnWhat exacerbated the situation was the complete absence of customer service support. There were no staff members available to assist or even provide information about the lift outages. In a station that sees such high foot traffic, it’s unacceptable to have no contingency plans or support systems in place for situations like this.nnSydney train station promotes itself as a fully accessible transport system, boasting features like lifts at all stations and level access between platforms and trains . However, this experience starkly contrasts with those claims. Moreover, reports have highlighted that several stations across Sydney face significant accessibility challenges, with issues like uneven paths and non-functional lifts . nnIt’s imperative that Sydney train addresses these shortcomings promptly. Ensuring that all passengers, regardless of their mobility needs, can travel safely and comfortably should be a top priority. I hope that steps are taken to rectify these issues and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Busy but super efficient! Town Hall Station makes getting around Sydney so easy. Plenty of entrances and exits, and it’s right underneath the QVB and close to Pitt Street Mall. Great location and good signage to help you find your way.
