Toowong Memorial Park was officially opened in 1918 in recognition of the 101 locals who enlisted in WWI with the decorative memorial gates on Sylvan Road commemorating the opening. Apart from a few regular commemorative functions the park is mainly used for its recreation values including its football fields and Wests Rugby Club and a small playground in the northern corner next to Dixon Street.
