This place was on our food radar for a long time. We couldn't make any bookings as most of the peak hours were always taken up quickly. We managed to grab a booking at 5 pm on Saturday.nThe menu was simple and clear. Two types of meat options for the pork tonkatsu - ribeye or sirloin. To go with the meat, there were 3 sauce options. We went for the conventional tonkatsu sauce and the miso sauce. There were other side dishes offered as well.nThe ox tongue skewers were very tender and literally melted in the mouth.nPortions were generous, and the cabbage served on the side with the sesame seed dressing was good.nWash the food down with a cold glass of beer had never tasted better.nA pleasant and enjoyable experience.
One of my Japanese friends recommended Ton & Co to me, and it became my favourite place for Tonkatsu.nThe Ox tongue skewer is a must have!!! All of my friends were amazed by them and there’s no other place I know in Melbourne offer similar quality ox tongue dish.nService is great and fast, overall baby friendly environment.nThe only drawback I can think of is you always have to make a reservation or it’s very hard to get a table by walk in.
The best Japanese pork katsu in Melbourne no doubt for me but for how long? The quality of the food and the service had drop significantly in the past few years. The food remains great just the portions slightly smaller.nThe service is my issue it was my first time I feel uncomfortable and unwelcome by the lady. Very poor service! We were rushed to leave! Hopefully they read the reviews and act upon accordingly.
the best tonkatsu i've ever had was in Japan and since i've come back nothing has really come close but i've never really been a big fan of it either.nnthough, ton & co have done an excellent job! not only the pork but the ebi too. everything was decently priced and pretty large portions, if i'm ever craving katsu's i'd defs come here again.nnthe katsu's are fresh, hot, crispy, crunchy and flavourful - definitely a hit. oh! and the ox tail skewers are really good too.nndon't cheap out, just get the most expensive piece of pork katsu available, it'll be worth it.
Been craving for tonkatsu and found this restaurant via reddit. I got to say this one provides legit tonkatsu. As newcomer, I ordered both ribeye and striploin cut and the taste so superb yet tender. Additionally, their tonkatsu is so crispy with no greasy feeling.nnFor ox tongue skewers, I quite surprised with this as I never it would be this soft. To be honest, I would have guessed it another part of pork sirloin if I eat with blind covered.nnHowever, I think it would be better if rice is more fragrant. It’s definitely a plus if it goes along with tonkatsu more.
