Ambience: Very artsy. The walls are beautifully hand-painted. Lighting was dimmed, adding to the warmth and coziness. Service: Wonderful service, very friendly and polite. Food: Very large portions and beautifully presented. A pretty good selection off the menu as well. Unfortunately, everything seemed a bit underseasoned and lacked flavour. Price: We had a discount voucher, so it was great value for money. However, would not have been too happy paying full price for the quality of food.

Tolarno Eating House & Bar on Fitzroy Street has had an interesting history. It was first opened back in 1965 as a French Bistro by bohemians Mirka and Georges Mora. Then in the early 70s it was purchased by Leone and Vivienne Massoni and run by Ian Hewitson and Ruth Allen for some 15 years until 2006. Next in 2007 Guy Grossi took however, under competitive pressure by the nearby Gatwick Hotel, he closed the restaurant in 2015.  Now, John Isherwood and business partner Lachie McKenzie-McHarg have recently re-opened the restaurant's doors, with some of Tolarno's former signature dishes but with a new image. The place has been redecorated and the walls are filled with Mora's whimsical and colourful illustrations and murals.  The Tolarno bar and restaurant are back and are highly recommended.

Delicious food, divine drinks and friendly warm service - what more could you ask for? Mirka Mora originals of course! and Tolarno had these in spades!  We held my sister's hen's party in the snug bar at Tolarno. From the booking, planning through to the event itself, John and Lachlan at Tolarno were warm, friendly and easy to work with. From catering to dietary requirements, through to providing lots of extra info and insight into the gorgeous Mirka Mora works around Tolarno, Lachlan was accommodating, hospitable and knowledgeable - nothing was too much trouble. The perfect setting to kick off our evening.  Can't recommend Tolarno enough for your next special occasion.

Absolute great place and amazing staff! Food is on point and the drinks and specials are great. Extremely decent priced and good happy hour. we stumbled past this place in our neighborhood and have been back ever since. the set up is great and decor and vibe, including the music. The staff Locky and John are OUTSTANDING and always go out of their way to help us enjoy our experience, two excellent staff members that keep us coming back. Thanks so much Guys . Highly recommend. Disappointed, this used to be one of our favorite restaurants, service was good but the food was a let down.

Really excellent good quality food, everything was delicious!! We went with friends and we all loved our meals, we had the fish, short ribs and the sirloin, entrees and desserts were also so yummy, second time we've been here and the food is consistently excellent... Also waiting staff were lovely and great atmosphere and art! Highly recommend.

The worst service right from entry!! We stood at the reception area waiting to be seated.  Instead of being greeted by the 2 staff who were standing right infront of us  we were completely ignored while that had a conversation.  We waited and waited, I eventually had to interrupt them and ask if I could take a seat.  They then took ages to take our order,  took my drink order and forgot to ask my friend for her order.  We then ordered our meal and they forgot to bring out the garlic bread that we ordered with our meal.  Nice ambience, nice food but the service was terrible!!

We celebrated my grandmother’s birthday at Tolarno. We had roughly 20 guests and the service was impeccable!! We were honestly blown away by how lovely & accomodating the staff were. Particular praise for the lovely cutting & plating of the birthday cake! We could not have asked for more. Thank you!

In for a private function, a birthday party actually! Was beautifully decked out, great finger food and terrific cocktails! Well done Tolarno's crew. You made us all happy! I'm having my next big bash here.
