This is my most regional favourite museum in NZ. It is beautifully understated and unpretentious. The items are fascinating and there is a wonderful balance between the history and the displays. My favourites are the carved wooden chain and, best of all, the linoleum carpet. An absolute treasure.

Very pleasant to spend an hour see the giant trees native to New Zealand & a few buildings from bygone years. Small gift shop very cheap compared to Auckland & if you're from NZ lots of plants to buy.

Nice museum, full of interesting local history. A walk through the bush is also a must!

Had a good walk around the outside looking at all the old stuff , Didnt pop inside  but enjoyed all the old huts outside and the bush walk around the Kauri trees
