Had a great experience at the Swallowed Anchor, celebrating a birthday. I recommend booking a balcony table, which has the added bonus of fresh air but with no traffic noise or pollution! The new staff were all very friendly and chatty, as was the jovial owner who explained the origins of some of the dishes. The food was excellent and is a mix of 'tapas' from various Mediterranean locations. It's certainly a great way to spend a sunny weekend lunchtime!
Look if there were more than 5 stars i would choose more. What can i say?? Freshest oysters in wollongong. Best hospitality Jono the chef overhears that i like octopus so oh do you have 7 mins to spare- he knocks me up some fresh occy to taste!!!!!Food: 5/5
We visited the swallowed anchor to enjoy a few drinks and a meal, our overall experience was average. The first few meals we got were pretty good the garlic prawns and halloumi but then we were quite disappointed by the rest of the food we ordered, our potatoes were undercooked, and our baked Camembert was inedible to which we sent it back and there was no questions asked as to why it was inedible or compensation for it. At least the staff were lovely and made the overall experience pleasant and the cocktails were definitely the hero of the night. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but unfortunately 4/6 of the meals we ordered weren’t worth the price.
$350 booking fee for my best friends birthday. 8 people and the restaurant was completely empty except one other couple. Margaritas tasted like I was biting into a lemon rind. Kept the $100 from deposit as 2 people or so didn’t show up. Paid way over 600 in food and drinks over a 2 hour duration and still kept some of the deposit. Shameful.
Great place, sorry about the darkness of the photos. This is a really cool bar and place to eat, lovely vibe, fantastic drinks and tapas and listen to some live music. Initially thought the proved were on the pricey side but the portions are pretty big and just totally on point. Had the pear salad, baked cheese, squid and lamb ribs, everything was divine, even the salad. Squid was one of the most tender I've had, all of the elements of the salad came together so well, lamb was super moreish, could have kept on going back for more. Great selection of drinks, loved the cocktails. Had a single singer-guitarist playing music the whole time, she was fantastic, it would have been worth it just to have her playing. Service was friendly, they get a bit busy though so booking especially for a large group is recommended.
My husband and I went to this place because it has a high rating. We are satisfied with the service and the food. I love the croquettes. The staff are very nice. The place is not that busy when we went. I think the only issue for me was the wine price. It was a little bit expensive. But for the food prices for a tapas place it isn’t that bad. We will come back again.
Staff were very indifferent and unfriendly. Preadvised GF meals required but only had a couple on menu. Food was very average. One guest was unable to join us as they were very unwell. SA have deducted $25 from my credit card without authorisation. I attempted to contact them by phone and email. They have ignored me. Do not recommend.
Absolutely amazing restaurant- the food is sensational, staff are super friendly and efficient and the setting is perfect! Thank you to Lucas, Holly and the fabulous George for making us feel so welcome and looked after. Hopefully we’ll meet Jonathon the owner next time. Thanks to the chef for a delicious meal. We can’t wait to come back!!!
Was our first time here. it didn’t have much of an atmosphere. Some music would of been nice. Don’t think the food was worth the price. The staff were lovely
80% of the people at our table didn’t like the food, we had to complain about the cocktails and even though the restaurant was almost empty that day and we had 11 people eating and drinking there spending almost $1000 we were charged an extra $100 because three people were ill and couldn’t make it that day.Food: 1/5
