The Star hotel in Sydney is certainly luxurious, but overall the experience didn’t feel as comfortable as it should for a property of this standard. The rooms are kept very clean, with daily housekeeping, and it’s nice to have a fridge in the room, although there is no minibar. There are lots of TV channels available, but most of them require an extra payment, which feels disappointing for a high-end hotel.nnService is polite but comes across as very transactional. Some staff seem emotionless, offering little more than the basics. It doesn’t feel warm or welcoming, which makes a big difference in a luxury setting. On top of that, the building is full of security cameras. I understand the reasoning, given that there’s a casino inside, but it makes the atmosphere less relaxing and more uncomfortable.nnThe room itself has some quirks too. At night it can get very cold, and unless you’re already familiar with the air-conditioning system, it takes some effort to adjust it properly. Another frustration was when I accidentally paid for an extra day of breakfast and asked for a refund. I was simply told it couldn’t be processed, which is not what you’d expect from a hotel at this level.nnOne positive worth mentioning is that becoming a member does give you at least 10% off most purchases in the hotel, which is a good benefit if you plan to stay or dine here often.nnOverall, while The Star looks impressive on the surface, the lack of warmth in service, comfort issues, and rigid policies leave much to be desired. I would stay here again only if I had to, not because I want to.
The ms and I stayed a few nights whilst visiting Sydney in early August and we had a fantastic time at The Star.nnParking was free with in-and-out privileges which was amazing being in the Sydney CBD. The room was magnificent. The pool and gym amenities are amazing. Room service was delicious and very prompt on arrival from the time of ordering. Plenty of food options located on-site and around as well. Great value overall. The casino is a good outing for some adult entertainment if you're feeling lucky!
The Star Hotel Sydney was one of the most unwelcoming and disrespectful venues I have ever stepped foot in. The staff here treat patrons as if they’re disposable, showing no basic courtesy or hospitality. Instead of providing an enjoyable experience, they seem to be looking for any excuse to throw people out, even over the smallest, most harmless things.nnI watched people be targeted for things as trivial as not walking perfectly in high heels or simply enjoying themselves while dancing. Rather than showing understanding, patience, or even the slightest bit of professionalism, security and staff act heavy-handed, rude, and completely out of line with what you would expect from a hospitality venue.nnThis kind of behaviour is appalling. A hotel or club should be a place where people feel safe, welcomed, and respected — not humiliated and tossed aside over petty reasons. What’s worse is that there’s no explanation, no fair treatment, and absolutely no respect shown by the staff. It’s as though they go out of their way to ruin your night.nnFor a venue of this size and reputation, their conduct is disgraceful. I would strongly recommend that people think twice before coming here, because unless you’re willing to risk being treated with complete disrespect for no valid reason, you will likely end up regretting it.nnBottom line: This place doesn’t deserve one star, and certainly doesn’t deserve your time or money.
Blackjack Brilliance at The Star – Thanks to Grant & Mitch! nnMy visit to The Star Casino was unforgettable, and not just for the dazzling atmosphere, sleek décor, and the buzz of excitement in the air—but for the outstanding hospitality and expertise of two incredible staff members: Grant and Mitch.nnAs someone new to the world of blackjack, I arrived with curiosity and a fair bit of hesitation. That changed instantly once I met Grant and Mitch at the tables. Their approach was nothing short of brilliant—friendly, patient, and genuinely passionate about the game. They took the time to walk me through the rules, strategies, and table etiquette with such clarity and enthusiasm that I felt completely at ease within minutes.nnGrant’s deep knowledge of the game paired with his calm, approachable nature made every question feel welcome, no matter how basic. Meanwhile, Mitch brought an infectious energy and encouragement that made learning fun, interactive, and surprisingly empowering.nnTogether, they transformed what could have been an intimidating experience into a highlight of my night. I left not just knowing how to play blackjack, but loving the game—and that’s entirely thanks to them.nnTo The Star: You’ve got two absolute legends on your team. Grant and Mitch aren’t just dealers—they’re teachers, entertainers, and ambassadors for what makes your casino stand out.nnCan’t wait to return for another round—now as a confident player
We booked into the Grand Star on the 16 Aug as we went to see the Michael Jackson musical. We got an upgrade to the Royal Suite and it was magnificent! The staff were exceptionally and the location was amazing. Will definitely be back. Thank you to the Star for making out stay so memorable.
