Lovely location.  Great service.   Yummy food.

Great service, given the restaurant was full on a public holiday. The menu had plenty of gluten free options. I chose the portobello  mushroom with bacon, garlic bread and aioli on lettuce with fried tomato. Just lovely. My partner had blue cod in light batter with fries and salad. Generous servings.

It's not fine dining but the food is delicious, well cooked and dessert was devine. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. I'd  go back.

Simple food done really well. Great staff  especially when they remember you even after 12 months.

Lunched on local blue cod with salad and chips and it was very nice and reasonably priced too. Awesome friendly wait staff and nice heritage surroundings made the Star and Garter a place we’d be happy to return to next time we’re in fabulous Oamaru.

Huge portions. Great fish and chips. Old world charm. The wall display of wedding photos was interesting.
