After a few hours walking in MONA we treated ourselves to lunch at The Source. Make sure you have a booking as the restaurant isn't huge and in winter the option to eat outside is not available. The food was good but really small portions, I understand it's fine dining and appreciate its all as local as possible but $50+ for 2 slices of venison is a little wrong. The menu is refined no beef, lamb, pork, chicken and the wine list is small unless you want a bottle. A nice experience and the staff were super friendly. Because the sizes were small we had 4 entree, 2 mains, 2 glasses of wine each, a dessert to share and it was $300.
The Source was one of the BEST experiences to indulge in whilst visiting MONA. Our waiter was super friendly and prompt, seating us at a table with an art piece by Pablo Picasso embedded underneath the glass table - a nice view whilst enjoying our fabulous meal. You do have to pay a deposit per person for the booking, but is well worth it and contributes to the final bill. We ordered the Wallaby Tartare, the Fish, and Venison with a side of seasonal greens. We have been told the desert is phenomenal as well, but opted not to do so as we had the Posh Pit booked back to the waterfront which includes afternoon tea. Overall, it was a fabulous experience that I will never forget - a highlight of our trip.
Exceptional service in a stunning environment. The food was above expectation with good potions and clever flavour combinations. I also appreciated the extensive extended wine list with some great finds in there. The young Irish sommelier has good wine knowledge so make sure you ask for help if needed.
had our breakfast here after staying at the pavilions. i believe you have to stay at the pavilions for this breakfast, but i could be wrong. amazing food. the breakfast bowl was really nice and the kimchi in it was subtle and perfect. The fresh fruit we ordered was all perfectly ripe — truly an impressive feat considering there were several kinds of fruit. i loved it. the service was excellent and the space is beautiful.
Best dining experience we had in Hobart !! The service was excellent, the wait time to receive the food was perfect and the food itself was delicious. We enjoyed oysters to start with, my hubby had the fish, I had the cauliflower dish and our two teens had the truffle toastie. We all enjoyed our dishes and I was happy that the kids enjoyed their toasties. We finished off with an apple pie dessert that hit the sweet spot. Definitely worth the visit and book in advance if you can !! Another great service provided was the chef marked all the dishes on a menu my son could eat as he is anaphylactic to nuts, rye flour and kiwi fruit. That was really nice and made it easy for him to choose his dish. Thank you chef :
Amazing dining experience with exceptional food. Very happy we were able to get a booking and dine here. Some of the best food we ate in Hobart with great portion sizes. Would come back just to have the Linguini again!
Great views, tables well spaced, attentive and friendly service, delicious and yummy food. Ask for the extended wine list. Knowledgeable sommelier. Highly recommend as a way to break up your day with a visit to MONA.
Wonderful meal, highly recommend. Perfectly matched flavours using quality ingredients, excellent service and an amazing view to go with it. Wine list little bit pricey but otherwise value for money
We were fortunate to get a Monday 1.30 late lunch booking and whilst the restaurant was buzzing the service was great, even for the coeliacs. Highlights from the tasting menu were; crispy cauliflower, fish and the venison.
Given the price, small portions, flavors of chorizo was not good imo and mixed steamed vegetables were served cold also prefer warmed. No options to serve bread felt like an oversight. Waited a long time for food to come out almost 40 minutes. If the prices were lower, all of this would have been less of a problem. Left unsatisfied.
