The Original Balkan Restaurant is a Croatian Restaurant serving authentic European style dishes. Private function room is available for groups up to 70 people.

Story

The Original Balkan Restaurant grill in Darlinghurst was first fired up in 1964 and has been run by the same Croatian family ever since. The Balkan has been known for over 48 years for its great atmosphere, excellent European style dishes and large servings.

Famous for its authentic European style food, some of the special dishes that have come to hold the pride of place as the specialties of this restaurant are cevapi, raznjici, poached Tasmanian mussels, and whole Barramundi.

Our simple, stylish menu also offers freshly prepared salad of cabbage and potato which is served with the meats and seafoods barbecued on the "Balkan Grill". Some of our other dishes can include the Balkan Vienna Schnitzel, Spaghetti Marinara and bean soup, all which can be washed down with a celebrated shot of Sljivovica.

Interesting to try a Croatian dish for the first time stuffed cabbage. It was ok but it is an acquired taste if you're not use to it. The beef stroganoff with mash, carrots and peas was not bad but quite pricey at $37. You could get a great cut from a steakhouse for that much. Service was good, very homely atmosphere.

Ordered many dishes as you can see from my photos. All are nice except the pasta. They need to work on their pasta. Staffs are friendly. Definitely come back.

Had the seafood platter for two and it was magnificent. They give you the signature potato and cabbage side dish that goes very well with the meal. What makes it perfect is they don't load the dish up with chips. It's the perfect amount for two people.

Delicious! A friendly service and atmosphere! They were so nice that they even made sure my over 90 grandma on the wheelchair can ascend their stairs and enjoy their delicious food. Thank you!!

Hearty, home cooked food in a real 'part of the family' setting. Love how welcoming everyone is. Mirijana is amazing! Try the garlic prawns and the steak. To die for!

Seens like a family run place. Accommodating to find one a seat but rather noisy. The chips were great. The red sauce on the mussels quite good as well. However the baby octopus was more in its teen years and rather chewey!

Simple and amazing. Fast simple service, no fancy rubbish, amazing prices and amazing simple fresh food. I love it. Recommend both the seafood and meat platters with garden salad and Balkan salad. Superb.

Dinner maybe but not a lunch time price. Way too expensive. Then, who eats Ćevapčići before bed??!! Not me. And I know Ćevapčići
