A family member was admitted twice. The first time they convinced the doctors to discharge prematurely and returned a week later. It’s not surprising that they wanted to leave. This facility is understaffed and often activities were booked so that days went by slowly without anything to do. This in itself is poor for mental health. The doctor was cold and clinical. They administered electroshock. The side effects have not subsided two years later: cognition has not returned fully and memory loss seems pervasive. Despite this, life threatening depression returned just days after release. I would not wish this treatment on my worst enemy. Be ware of this facility. Much better care at Ramsay Clinic on Albert Road: excellent doctors, nicer facilities and consistently available activities.
I couldn't have a better experience with the Melbourne Clinic. It's above and beyond every other hospital in Victoria. The nursing staff, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers are top notch. They literally saved my life and I am so grateful that they treat you like a human being - they listen to you and allow you to have input in your treatment. If you're looking for a clinic, go to the Melbourne Clinic immediately, they are amazing.
Very average experience. Going into the PIP unit for post natal depression, and the ward was filthy, I saw one cleaner once, garbage was piled up in bags in the common area, food was terrible, similar to a microwave meal, and when I requested a GF and veg option as they’re my dietary requirements. I received a plate of white rice with frozen veg.nnThe hospital in general is run down, there were absolutely no homely comforts in the parent and infant unit, the shower was reminiscent of the public ones you would find at the beach, there was no kitchenette available, and very limited options regarding snacks/alternative foods for those with dietary requirements and drinks.nnTo top off the experience, my baby and I were sent home 3 weeks earlier than planned due to my child catching a virus from another child who arrived very clearly ill.nnI’m not sure what the policies and procedures are around this, however I find it extremely negligent to risk the health of other patients and their infants. There was absolutely no extra cleaning or sanitation procedures put in place to prevent the spread of any virus or infection. The only time I saw anything like this was when it was decided that myself and my child needed to leave, and we were made to isolate in our room for over 7 hours whilst we waited for our ride home. We weren’t even allowed to leave the hospital for fresh air, even though we had plenty of leave we could use.nnMake it make sense!? IMO, go elsewhere.
Instead of keeping me in a safe environment, they had me involuntarily sent to the ER, who kept me for one terrible night and then sent me home much, much more stressed than when I arrived. They also kept my phone and all my medications.nnThey actually asked me which ERs I'd had bad experiences with in the past so they could send me to one of them.nnI actually allowed myself to hope that these people could help me. Apparently they'd rather I quietly kill myself somewhere they aren't legally responsible.
This hospital is wonderful!nI had a mental health problem and I got in quickly and easily.nThe accommodation is beautiful, the food is fantastic and there's always many different options.nIt's a holiday for your mental health.nThe nursing staff are kind, professional, helpful and supportive and friendly.nThe access to my psychiatrist was beyond what I expected and we worked together on medications and my plan.nThere's also access to GPs and psychologists and counselling, clinicians and peer support.nI felt really taken care of and supported at all times.nThey tailor a range of programs to suit your specific, individual requirements and needs.nThe rules are fair and simple.nI have enjoyed my stay and will be returning for four more programs.nIf you have mental health issues, substance abuse problems, addiction issues or have been through a trauma I highly recommend the Melbourne Clinic!nI have learned valuable skills and tools acquired in my programs group therapy and education sessions and I am walking out a different person with an optimistic attitude and a healthy routine.nBut - the most important thing is that, you don't just have to walk out after a four week program; there's after care options and other inpatient programs designed for the individual.nMy experience was truly exceptional! I felt safe and cared for and listened to!nMy only complaint - there was only one washing machine in my unit. What a tiny thing compared to better mental health and living well; a life worth living!
