The Loose Caboose Cafe

Story

The Bowden Railway Station, built in 1856 and heritage listed. It is Australia's oldest railway station (pre-dated by Melbourne's Flinders St station which was started in 1854 but not finished until 1910).

The railway station is on Adelaide's Outer Harbour line, placed at the end of a tree lined street off Port Road 2.7 kms from Adelaide city. The large gums that surround the station sway quietly when there is a breeze, remove the sting of the summer sun and place a pleasant eucalyptus scent in the air. The station is situated across the road from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and is adjacent to the famous Governor Hindmarsh Hotel (aka 'The Gov' for any non-Adelaideians).

The owners have always loved Adelaide; old buildings; coffee; great food; atmosphere and creating spaces where people love to meet and have a memorable time. Despite its' former dilapidated state, they have restored the Bowden Railway Station to its original glory in a way that is respectful of its surrounds and deep history, whilst adding amenities that breathe life back into the site – it's evolved into a contemporary cafe that is welcoming, memorable and easy to enjoy.

Always go for the pork dish here. Sauce is amazing and the potatoes are crunchy. Pork might be bit dry in certain parts of it, depends on how fatty the cut is.. The fattier the better always. But it's your luck! Scrambled eggs also yummy.
Fantastic little Cafe. In the old train station has a lovely little vibe to it. Coffee was delicious and the food was also delicious. Staff were very friendly will definitely return and highly recommend!
Lovely outdoor seating area, great food and serves just the right size. The red velvet hotcakes were really delicious. Takes a while to get seated even with a booking. Online Booking was easy to do. No children's menu or options available, perhaps just a few items for kids like a half serve of pancakes etc would be welcome.
Great place with a lovely ambiance and the nicest wait staff ever! Loved being there. My recommendations: the zucchini dish + their quirkily presented cold brew coffee. Blissful!
Food and courtyard setting good, coffee good. Have been here a few times now and consistently good with coffee and food. Service can be variable and today wasn’t so friendly.
Food was lovely but spoilt by some of the staff being gruff and just forgetting to come back to the table for coffee orders and then being asked to leave because time was up was a bit much. Wont be returning in a hurry plenty of other places with much better and more friendly service.
Lovely customer service, well thought out covid safety that doesn't impact your visitor.
