Reviews
had dinner at The Italian Bowl in Newtown and it totally lived up to the hype! The pasta was fresh, the sauce full of flavour, and the portions were just right. I ordered [insert your dish — e.g. Spaghetti Bolognese / Fettuccine Carbonara / Chicken Pesto] and it came out quickly, cooked perfectly.nnThe staff were friendly and efficient even though it was busy, and I loved the open-kitchen vibe where you can see your meal being made. Great place for casual dining with authentic Italian flavours at a fair price. Highly recommend if you’re around Newtown!
I used to really love this place and even recommended it to many of my friends.nBut this time, I had a very disappointing experience.nThe older woman at the counter completely ignored me while I was clearly waiting to order — she just kept chatting with another staff member.nIt honestly felt like she didn’t want to serve me, maybe because I’m Asian, lol.nThe other servers were generally nice, but that woman — who seemed like the owner — made me feel really unwelcome.nn
The Good: This spot came highly recommended by a newly minted Aussie and, despite being local, I hadn’t tried it — until now. First impression? The line out the door was intimidating but also a great sign. Thankfully, it moved quickly and we were seated in no time. The place was buzzing and packed, with a loud and lively atmosphere that fits the Newtown vibe. The food absolutely delivered — pasta all round and a standout risotto full of flavour. What truly impressed me, though, is their heart: The Italian Bowl gives back to the community by preparing and providing hundreds of meals to those in need. That kind of generosity adds extra warmth to the plate.nnRoom for Improvement: The noise level made it a bit tricky to hold a conversation — worth knowing if you're after a quiet dinner. But otherwise, hard to fault.nnWould I Return? Yes, for both the food and the values behind the business.nnThe Verdict: Flavourful, fast-paced, and full of heart — The Italian Bowl is a Newtown gem that feeds more than just your appetite.
If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible hospitality and the staff were rude. Had to beg the staff multiple times to get cutlery and share plates. We had to grab our own water. We were rushed in to order and pay immediately without even looking at the menu or sitting down. We were also overcharged. There was a black eyelash in my pasta, I have blonde hair. The cups were also dirty, not stained because I could quite literally scratch it off. Absolutely appalling and I can’t see the appeal or hype. I would not recommend coming here.
I was a bit nervous as review said cashier was not kind. But all the staff kind and fun!nPasta was amazingnbut dont worthy for long queue personally.nAnd inside was pack of pp so a bit uncomfortable pnWanna go back weekday!
