"The Art Gallery of Ballarat is truly one of Australia’s great galleries. It is not only the oldest and largest regional gallery but, more importantly, one of the most welcoming and engaging.Located in the heart of Ballarat, the Gallery is beloved by visitors and residents alike as the heart of this creative city. The Gallery’s magnificent collection provides the basis for a unique thematic display, which looks at our society from a series of perspectives such as Home, Country, Belief and Disruption. As well as the extensive permanent collection the Gallery hosts a diverse range of touring and temporary exhibitions and regularly curates significant shows which are often inspired by the works in the collection."

Such a lovely place to enjoy a few hours. The venue is a wonderful mix of heritage architecture and modern renovation. I came for the opening of the Trevor Smith exhibition and Light + Dark by Max Meldrum and his followers. Right in the middle of town and well worth a visit!
Great experience for adults and children. The gallery is child friendly and my 6 and 9 yo had lots of fun walking around and appreciating the displays. Staff is simply lovely
Some really amazing pieces of art. We also got to hear a talented woman play the piano!! Highly recommend coming here if you're in Ballarat.
Very impressive. Great selection of art. Found it relaxing to wander throughout the gallery. Well maintained.
We found ourselves in Ballarat with nothing to do that day so visited this art gallery, we are not art people but I enjoyed this one. Lots of paintings showcasing raw talent and only 2 with just random lines which is so called "art"
We went to the PIRATE STORIES WITH PENELOPE BARTLAU today. This was a spectacular journey for kids and adults alike. Our 9 and 7 year old were incredibly taken with Penelope. She really had a wonderful way of engaging and immersing kids in the wonderful world of art through storytelling, directed by them. Miss 7 in particular left buoyant and inspired. The Ballarat Gallery itself is wonderful with great variety in the collection. I love to see the changing displays on the lower level every time we visit.
A very impressive place to visit.I have not visited this Gallery for many a year and I was very impressed on the renovations and on the art pieces displayed.Definitly should be on "the place to visit" and it's such an historical building itself. The lady greeting everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed my time here. Reception was welcoming. Place was full of beautiful arts.
It’s free entry!!! Sorry I had to start with it’s free as it’s an important thing for travellers and I believe everyone should go to as many art galleries as they can. Staff are fantastic and helpful. I came here with kids so they pointed out some art works that they thought the kids would like. Plus they have a drawing area upstairs for them to create. Great mix of Contemporary arts, aboriginal arts, more traditional artwork in large gold frames as well. While we were here Kait James had her exhibition here called hang us out to dry. A bit controversial with the captain cook embroidered tea towel & there is a section that I didn’t go to as I had my kids with me. I won’t write it here, just in case the review is blocked by Google. See photos and my TikTok video @splitthebill Highly recommend you to visit and add to your itinerary.
We stopped here to kill a bit of time while waiting for a lunch appointment. We were amazed at the quality of the artworks in the gallery collection. We were greeted at the door by a lovely lady who explained the gallery layout and history to us. Highly recommend a visit.
