The Front

About

The Front is a mixed purpose hospitality & arts space.

Story

The Front Gallery & Cafe Walking past the Lyneham shops you may spot a gypsy caravan that has parked itself, and set up shop in the belly of an old bakery, called The Front.

The sign outside says it's a cafe and gallery, but once you step inside, intrepid explorer, you will discover it is much more. It is a place where Uni students down coffee while hunched over laptops, endlessly studying social networking sites. Where writers, actors, sculptors, public servants, door repairmen, lawyers, accountants, conspiracy theorists, maniacs, musicians, pipe dreamers, moon watchers, sunshine junkies, rainbow thieves, thugz 4 lyfe, burlesque dancers, basket cases, geeks, circus sideshow refugees, painters, poets, pirates, masseuses, baristas, horn sections, belly dancers and fire twirlers gather in droves to talk and laugh, create and mutilate, swap stories, ideas and saliva, hurl hugs and abuse while bleary eyed on 4am chai and cider binges.

It is a place where art openings turn into all night parties fueled by live music, skipping ropes and bubble blowing. It is the kind of place where you show up for an album launch, and end up doused in body paint and fed pancakes.

Of a night passing by you are liable to find yourself caught up in poetry slams, stand-up comedy, music of every possible genre, photography exhibitions, video installations, puppet shows, theatre both experimental and traditional People are free to be everything or nothing, free to talk off someones ear or sit quietly in the corner on any number of couches, inside, outside and occasionally upside down. Be yourself, or be someone else.

The Front Gallery & Cafe: The beer is cheap and the love is free. When quizzed about what The Front meant to her, co-proprietor and head of security, Ariel the dog was heard to bark at a passing motorcycle and demand someone throw her a stick

Don't use the QR code on the tables. A couple came in 10 minutes after I did, ordered with the staff and they had almost finished their food before my coffee even came out! Relating to the food when it finally arrived, it wasn't bad. Nothing to talk about, probably not worth what they charge. Coffee was well made and it seemed there was a line outside for takeaways. I'd recommend they ditch the QR scan to order and patrons just grab a coffee.

A nice toilet, with soap and paper towels. It was a little messy after the morning rush but that’s to be expected.
New Years Day '23. These guys are open so thought I would try them out. Iced late and eggs benedict with bacon. I'll be honest, I'm not sure if I would get the same food again. For starters, the eggs were clearly over done. To be fair, I didn't give them the opportunity to resolve it, first cause chef should check them no bounce, don't serve them, and secondly I'm pretty chill today, so I ate them and enjoyed anyway. However for those of you a who are funny about poach eggs, check them and if over done, just let one of the staff know. Speaking of staff, these guys are bloody great. Staff is 50% of the vibe when it comes to cafes, and these guys are a vibe with fantastic customer service. The person who took my order even complimented my nails, which tells me that these guys are always prepared to spark a conversation. There is some art work inside from Canberra artist, while they have gone for a neutral palet on the walls with lots of plants. Recommend as a good place to catch up with some friends while having a cup of coffee. Will likely visit again soon. Wheelchair accessibility: Business has a ramp at the front door, they have made a reasonable attempt regarding accessibility. Regarding seating, I am sure staff will try to accommodate where they can. Staff are super friendly. Most of their chairs are moveable, so one can simobe moved out of the way to accommodate someone who is wheelchair bound.
Discovered this cafe recently when invited to join a friend who lives in Lyneham there for lunch. The food was good and coffee excellent! Quite a spacious indoor eating area and tables well separated to comply with COVID restrictions. Some out door seating as well. Friendly staff! I’m looking forward to returning. 4.5 from me.
Our Sunday morning walk turned into a Father's Day breakfast at The Front at Lyneham. Incredibly flavourful and textured kimchi omelette for me: beautifully toasted rye, feta cheese and a side salad that had crispy celery... delightful! My wife had a speck, their bacon, broccolini, potatoes and poached egg plate; she was equally pleased. Lovely coffee too. 4.5 for me.
I had the most lovely experience at The Front. Beautiful, friendly and attentive staff. Delectable array of sweet and savoury offerings and exquisite coffee - they serve two before ten coffee beans, I believe. And I had a batch brew that was on prism beans. The menu looks so good. I'll definitely be back to try the rest. I had "The Speck". 10/10 would come again!
Freindly service, food came out quickly, lots of locals saying hello and plenty of puppies to pat. Mug of coffe was generous, scrambled eggs were fluffy and flavoursome.
The blueberry yoghurt bread is a real treat, and the place is very welcoming to all. Vegetarian options: Plenty of good vego and vegan options
