What a special place. Beautiful interior.Took me back to my childhood theatres which are all destroyed now in Brisbane. Good on you Toowoomba for saving this one.nSaw Elvis show and it was 5 star entertainment.
The Beautiful Empire Theatre has been lovingly restored and extended. It is a wonderful, contemporary venue. Originally built in 1911 as 'Empire Pictures', rebuilt in an art deco style in 1933, following a fire, and finally restored and reopened in 1997. The heritage listed theatre is a building with rich history and fine architecture, including the grand proscenium arch, decorative sconces, original brick walls in the foyers and art-deco style lighting. This building sat idle, dormant and derelict for 26 years before being restored. The precinct now includes the Empire Theatre Studio, the Empire Church Theatre and the Armitage Centre. We saw a fantastic show and really enjoyed the art deco ambience of the foyers and theatre proper. We will be back.
One of the best old theatres in Queensland. Great atmosphere and good seating.
Update: Another fantastic night of laughs at this Grand old Theatre.nThe exposed old brickwork walls and Skylights are amazingnnFinally after nearly a year of waiting due to a multitude of delay we got to see Kitty Flanagan. She didn't disappoint. The theatre itself was fantastic. Friendly helpful staff. Seats were comfortable for the length of the show. The theatre gives a great feeling and atmosphere of grandeur of a bygone era.
Great place for events. Friendly staff. Although they don't have much drinks or snacks to offer. May I also suggest not to choose BB seating. They are too close to the stage and quite narrow space specially when you needed to go get a drink or something. A, would be much preferable for me. But to each their own I suppose.
