The Downing Hostel

Story

The Downing Hostel is located in the heart of Sydney's Central Business District, surrounded by an abundance of bars, restaurants and cafes all boasting a wide array of ethnic cuisine and ground breaking drinks. However, for those wishing to cook for themselves or wanting a quiet night in, there is a Coles located a five minute walk away in World Square which is also home to other shops and amenities.

In terms of transportation and convenience, we are perfectly situated between three different train stations; Museum Station which is a two minute walk away, Town Hall Station which is a ten minute walk away, and Central Station which is a fifteen minute walk away. All three also contain Bus Stops, making it easy to get to any number of places in Sydney – including Bondi Beach, Coogee Beach, Blue Mountains and more. For those looking to stay more active, however, Hyde Park, Sydney Opera House, Botanical Gardens, Darling Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, and many more exciting attractions are all an easy thirty minute or less walk away.

We are proud to offer Three Bed Private which consists of one double bed and a singular top bunk, Four Bed Mixed Dorms, Six Bed Mixed Dorms and Eight Bed Mixed Dorms at competitive pricing in relation to the area; along with Free Wifi, Free Laundry Facilities complete with an Ironing Board and an Iron along with a full Kitchen at your disposal. Beyond that we are located above Hotel Downing where an array of cocktails, beer, wine, spirits and amazing pub foot await you - try the $14 daily specials!

Recently added to our features are the Sunday Nature Walks which take you to some of Sydney's most well known secrets, and some unknown treasures, such as The Figure Eight Pools, The Chinese Garden of Friendship, Chowder Bay and more – feel free to join us on our next one!

A valid credit card is required to secure all bookings, however you do not need to pay in full until you arrive. At check in, guests are required to show a valid passport and pay for their booking in full either by cash or card. Cancellations made over 48 hours will not be charged. Cancellations made within 48 hours or “No Shows” will be charged their first nights stay. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds after you have checked in.


Reception is open every day from 8:00am to 10:00pm with Check Out Time being 10:00am and Check In Time being 1:00pm, if you do arrive before this time we have luggage storage available. If you will be checking in after Reception has closed, please contact the hostel either via phone or e-mail and we will be glad to accommodate you.

There are also no lifts available, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Lastly, due to Licensing Restrictions we cannot accommodate anyone under the age of 18.
