A journey on the Cockle Train is like taking a trip back in time. The volunteer team who run the train experience are very knowledgeable and approachable, adding to the fun! Either steam or diesel *depending on the day it's a trip worth taking.
I had been keen to enjoy the heritage railway for many years in October 2023 saw me finally get to experience the journey. Like the Don River Railway in Tasmania, the volunteers here made the experience fabulous with their good humor and love of their railway. The views are fabulous making this a must do journey when you're in South Australia.
Awesome experience!nGreat step back in time riding in the old train carriages lovingly known as the old Red HensnBought return tickets from Goolwa to Victor Harbor.nBeautiful scenery along the way, ocean on 1 side & rural on the other.nGreat for all ages, families with young children up to the very elderly had smiles on their faces.nDogs are also allowed on leads on the Cockle Train
Took the train from Victor Harbour to Goolwa and back the schedule is on their website.nBit disappointed it’s not steam but diesel engine as that only operates during peak/school holidays. They should state that info on the website as well so we have the option and organise accordingly.nnOverall, fun experience for us and the doggo ! Yes, it’s dog friendly !
