Such an amazing place to study. This is exactly how all university libraries should be. Spacious, natural lighting, plenty of study booths and power boards everywhere! The only mark down would be the limited opening hours for non-UoM students. Despite still being a full time uni student and also willing to pay for a membership, the public hours are very limited. Surely an 8am open on weekends is possible...? Or open until 9pm on weekdays?
Personally, this is a great escape from my lack of window, fully walled, workplace at my faculty. A range of study place options are available, with some requiring in advance bookings. I really love the study area on the second floor, as it allows me to look out at the South Lawn. Students normally study in quite, bit expect some discussing in a sensible volume. But it does not bother my nature of study at all.
Really great library for studying no matter what degree you're in. There are a bunch of good places to sit and even when it's busy you can always find somewhere. It's also very clean. You can also stay until 1am on weeknights if you're a uni student, just in the downstairs area but they make announcements to let you know what you have to do. You know, just in case you're keen for some late night studying...
It’s ok as a library and some floors and areas are renovated nicely. Others are very dated which is depressing for the main library at the university.
The old Baillieu used to have rooms upon rooms of desks for quiet study. They got rid of all those and put in sleek new conference tables and computer stations so now you'll have to either get there early for a spot, or just lurch around looking menacing and unhinged and one should soon become available.
My favourite library in Melbourne uni.
A peaceful and respectful spot for some serious study, reflection and planning. Melbourne Uni is the top world-ranked Uni in Australia and the surroundings reflect its academic excellence. Clean and spacious with loads of comfortable chairs, power outlets and USB wall chargers, so you don’t have to skedaddle when your device is out of juice.
Great study space - The bathrooms are especially conducive to having a mental breakdown. The endless rows of bookshelves also usually make for a quiet, private space to cry if you feel inclined. Staff are always helpful.
A great place with a huge variety of environments to study - open and closed booths, window views, dark corners, chairs, stools, tables with and without PCs, anything you like. Gets very busy during working hours though, which is expected.
Why do you allow undergrads ALWAYS domestic students to constantly converse aloud in silent study areas? A typical reflection of etiquette or a complete lack thereof in this decades-behind cultural wasteland known as Australia.
