The Artisan Cafe

About

At the Artisan Cafe we serve modern Australian cuisine which we create from scratch using lfresh, locally sourced, sustainable and ethical ingredients.

Story

We aim to operate in the most ethical, sustainable, and environmentally friendly manner possible, and to contribute to the enhancement of local community.

Our name, Artisan, was chosen to reflect the qualities, along with those we endeavor to find in our suppliers, which describe our business. Artisan has, contemporarily, come to describe skilled craftsmen producing small quantities of high quality product, using traditional methods. Thus, as far as possible, our food and beverages are created from scratch, on the premises, by qualified tradespeople, using time honoured production methods.

We aim to use the best available locally sourced food and beverages. Local produce is fresh, flavoursome, and is transported over small distances, thus contributing less to green-house gas emissions. Similarly, our wine list comprises primarily stock from small wineries in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale which, fortunately, produce world class, award winning wines.

When products cannot be sourced locally we choose either further afield Australian, or international alternatives, taking into account several factors such as; the ethos of the company, the ecological impact of production and transportation, and the conditions of the production workers. Wherever practicable we choose either an ecologically sound Australian product or an international fair-trade alternative.

We are committed to the ethical rearing of animals for human consumption and use only free range eggs, chicken, and pork products. We use organic lamb and beef but are aware of the environmental impact of cloven hoofed animals and, therefore, along with our many vegetarian options, we will soon offer kangaroo as a menu alternative.

Within our business we are continually striving to replace wasteful processes with environmentally friendly alternatives. One goal is to reach zero waste. We recycle all of our newspaper, cardboard, and much of our plastic waste. We compost our organic waste, including food scraps, coffee grounds, serviettes and order tickets. Thus our waste for landfill is minimal.

As long term local residents we are committed to contributing to the community. To this end, we have dedicated wallspace to showcasing local artist’s work. Each month will see a different artist’s work displayed, providing exposure for the artist and a change of scenery for our patrons.

We trust that you will enjoy your visit and we welcome your thoughts and ideas. Our website contains further information. www.theartisancafe.com.au

Visited The Artisan Cafe for my wife's birthday. The views are absolutely incredible, the cafe more like a restaurant looks over the vineyards. We were lucky enough to have a private sit down tasting before a large group arrived. The host we had was knowledgeable and funny. Overall it was a great experience and I recommend you do it. Food was a little disappointing, only to be saved by the wine. Food wasn't bad in terms of taste but selection. We chose the 'Feed me like a Barossan' menu, leaving team to select fresh produce the Barossa region is known for. Unfortunately, a large portion of the meals were deep fried and sliders. Typical item one can order at a pub. We were hoping for the salmon, beef carpaccio or braised pork. Anything other than the heavy meals. The quality of food was still good mind you, but it wasn't what we were expecting. I still highly recommend a visit if you are thinking of visiting.
This is one of the few places I have been where I have looked at the menu and immediately decided that I need to return here. The food and drinks were excellent, as was the amount of choice on the menu. The cafe also has a lovely atmosphere, and displays some nice artwork from different monthly artists.
Superb little cafe tucked away in the heart of Blackwood. Coffee is great; but it's the food that takes it for me. Fairly reasonable pricing considering the large portion of food. Definitely one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in Adelaide thus far. Go to cafe whenever I wander into Blackwood.
The artisan cafe caters for breakfast, lunch or the odd cup of coffee with a few nibbles. It is in central Blackwood with plenty of parking nearby. We popped in for lunch today and found the place neat and clean with courteous and friendly staff. The price was mid range, not particularly cheap for a cafe but the food was not pre-packaged as you often find, all hand prepared. Everything, including the nibbles, made on the premises. We had the seafood salad to share and it was a moderate sized serving, enough for the two of us to share and delicious. The dressing was really nice and plenty of sea food to split between us. It would normally be sufficient for one person but we were only looking for a light lunch. I had one of the "green drinks" and it was very nice. The wife had a smoothie and it would have made a meal in and of itself : There is a large selection of custom drinks to be had, or mix your own. These drinks are mixed fresh. Afterwards I had a late and we shared a macadamia shortbread. The coffee was a solid five out of five, perfect temperature, pre-heated glass and wonderful flavour. The shortbread was also delicious, using real butter and very fresh. Again ir was well large enough for two. Overall it was a great experience if a bit on the expensive side, but considering the quality of the food and that it is all prepared on the spot not unexpected.
Omg the best baked cheesecake i have ever had. Service was quick and friendly. Prices are great cheaper than other places i have been. Highly recommend this place.
Wonderful locally sourced food. Don’t let the simplistic look of it fool you, every ingredient is delicious and perfectly cooked. All around the table commented on the outstanding quality of the meat in their dishes. I could tell the veggies were fresh, and not just added as an afterthought. It is a tad pricey for cafe service but I’ll be back again and again.
Amazing cafe/resterant. Great food.
The Artisan cafe was a lovely place to hold my sister's 21st. She hired out the space for the night, the owners served platters of sliders, kebabs, satay chicken and quiches. All the food was beautiful. Not to mention the owners who were so friendly. Overall gorgeous little cafe, they even serve alcohol.
Met friends for coffee mid morning. Lots of tables free but filled up very quickly. Order at the counter but table service. Quick & friendly . Coffee was really good. Sat talking for a long time but weren't made to feel we'd out stayed our time slot.
I had been to The Artisan for nice coffee and lovely cakes before and decided to go for tapas there on a Friday night with my sisters. The Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was amazing and great value. Really fresh flavours and great presentation. We stuffed ourselves silly and then were really surprised at the bill. Great price for such thoughtful and high quality food. Thanks Artisan for a lovely evening!
