Breakfast was a rather dull affair as the tearooms has recently scaled back its menu and doesn't seem to show much of a Scottish flair in the early hours anymore. The Salmon Royale, particularly the rosti, was good but somewhat expensive for the serving size. Vegetarian options are highly limited and not at all recommended. Haggis slider was a missed opportunity. The crumb is far too thick, masking the well seasoned flavour of the haggis when you get to it. Accompanying jalapeno mayo was an odd but nice touch. Bread to filling ratio is all wrong. Dinner looks like it could be a better option and has seen better reviews. Service was friendly enough and they seem to run events fairly regularly.
This restaurant has somewhat missed the opportunity to shine as an authentic Scottish restaurant. The breakfast menu reads a like a standard cafe menu with tiny glimpses of Scottish cuisine popping up on a couple of dishes. Food misses the mark - some due to conception e.g. haggis slider - not enough haggis which was rather tasty, bread too large, accompanying sauce doesn't fit in, others due to execution e.g. poached egg on breakfast was overcooked. Ingredients used however seem good quality and fresh. Coffee was acceptable.
Really funky venue, great food. Scottish which at first was a bit weird Haggis sliders????? I never tried them but the Fillet Steak with white truffle oil was up there with the best steak iv had.
50 bucks for teensy weensy slices of bread. A scone or two and and some cake. Are you serious? Then the waiter ran a fantastic price gouge on us with "do you want some water"? Little did we know it was apparently the water of the gods and priced accordingly. The atmosphere is cool but my recommendation? Buy some tea with friends and just have it at home.
