Really enjoyed our meal here. Saturday 13th Sept The staff were lovely- friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. So delicious I forgot to photograph it until we were halfway through eating it! So apologies for the messy but real pics!! My husband reckoned his steak was cooked perfectly and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the smashed avocado and loved it too. I would recommend eating here. It’s a lovely art deco style building too.
When booking a table online, there was a section asking if we were celebrating a special occasion. I noted it was my husband’s 50th birthday, but upon arrival, there was no mention of it—no greeting, no acknowledgment, nothing. It made us wonder why they even ask if it’s not going to be recognized, especially for a milestone.nnFrom the start, we simply didn’t feel welcome. The atmosphere was plain, with no smiles from the staff, and a filthy chair at the next table didn’t help the first impression. None of the staff looked particularly happy, which contributed to an overall flat and uninviting mood.nnThe food was hit and miss—some of our group enjoyed their meals, others didn’t. The music didn’t match the theme at all—surf-style tunes played from a large TV, which also blasted loud commercials between songs. It felt out of place, especially considering the town is inland and far from any beaches.nnThe bartender seemed especially unhappy and unapproachable. In the end, we just wanted to eat and leave.
Absolutely amazing food and really large portion sizes. Spaghetti bolognaise and sweet potato chips were a 10/10.nDefinitely will be back again.
Had a very nice meal on a quiet Saturday night passing through Ararat. Agree with other reviews here that some gentle instrumental music would add some atmosphere, but not a big concern. The food I ordered was tasty and well presented, and the service excellent. Recommended.
Unfortunately, my lunch experience at the Ararat Hotel was far from what I expected. The staff seemed completely disengaged and uninterested in providing even basic hospitality. Requests were met with indifference, and it often felt like an inconvenience to ask for assistance.nTo make matters worse, the wait time for food was unreasonably long. Even simple orders took well over an hour to arrive, and there was no communication or apology for the delay. Overall, the lack of service and attention made for a frustrating and underwhelming experience. I won’t be returning.
