Nice to find a fish and chip shop offering gluten free! The fish was high quality and the batter was not too thick and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the GF flour doesn't have the same texture as conventional flour, almost a bit too crispy but that's better than soggy and undercooked. This particular mix did have a subtle flavour in the mix that I didn't like but others may not notice it. Chips were just average in my opinion, not bad, but nothing special.
Extremely tasty and thin batter the potato cakes and chips were amazing!
Good food but your cashier needs a reality check on how to treat people. Extremely rude, pushing us out the door 20 mins before closing. Maybe update your closing time from 230 to 2pm on a Sunday? We watched too many people show up and saw the shop closed half and hr to the advertised time. I know I’m not the first review to speak up about your cashiers attitude. You work in hospitality, and you clearly don’t know or have any experience on customer service.
The fish and chips were the best I have had in a long time. It is very hard to find good GF fish and chips which were just right. Amazing. Thank you.
This country fish and chips shop blows some seaside towns Torquay, Anglesea out of the water! They still give you lemon slices and tartare sauce handmade btw WITH your fish and chips and not as an extra, packaged Masterfoods substitute. Food is superb too!
Steak sandwich was delicious. Then was down hill from there. Ordered a chicken burger to receive a sandwich that didn’t even have toasted bread. Quite different in my opinion. Potato cakes are tiny !! Half the size of a normal one. Was also told my order would take 35 mins and took close to an hour and 15 mins. Young boys ordered medium chips and had to wait 50 mins just for chips… surely you would fast track an order like that. Would try somewhere else before returning.
This fish and chippery is amazing. The fries are fried to perfection, their sauces are home made. I highly recommend the tomato sauce made with little pieces of ginger. The fish sandwich tastes so good, with fresh veggies and soft bread and a big fish burger between.
Chips were great but the batter on the fish and potato cakes was leaking out of the bottom of the box !!! Ended up stopping and removing all the batter cleaning the fat off our hands then eating the fish !!Food: 3/5
Arrived at 1.05pm. It was brusquely pointed out to us that eating in, i.e.sittiing at one of the two interior tables provided, was not really satisfactory since they "close soon "2:30.....anyway she took our order but was surly about doing so.....we sat down, it was hot and the interior stank of old cooking oil. There was no aircon, but there was a cheap pedestal fan which I turned toward us to provide some relief from the oppressive atmosphere in the shop. I was quickly told not to touch it because it "doesn't work very well"....indeed it did stop, but I got it to work with a small adjustment of the switch.....Imagine our shock when after about five minutes the rude woman came out from behind the counter and turned the fan away from us!........The food arrived after some fifteen minutes or so. Octopus tentacle singular turned out to be the tentacles of those small frozen octopus from Asia. There were several of them, and they were crumbed and deep fired to very dark brown. They were virtually inedible being overcooked to the point they were stiff. Disgusting! The potato cakes were battered and a little under-cooked. The batter had sealed on the outside making them the perfect vessel to contain the large amount of oil on the inside. They mostly went into the bin at the front of the shop. The 'house made' beef spring roll was basically a sheet of pastry with nothing but mince in the centre and deep fried. It wasn't as inedible as the octopus and the potato cakes, but it was a long way from what a spring roll should be. The addition of some cabbage and carrot would improve that item greatly. My partner had whitebait, and said they were OK, but greasy. Prices were not too high and acceptable. ADVICE TO SERVER :- It cost nothing to be courteous to customers, but being discourteous costs your business repeat custom. If you are courteous customers can usually forgive a few food fails. Fortunately for you, Beechworth lives on visiting clientele, and so there will be always new customers will attend your shop, albeit only once if your rude approach continues.
