We are a not-for-profit, community organisation whose primary aim is to assist young people to overcome life-controlling problems.
To powerfully influence troubled youth to reach their full potential.
We create a framework that challenges people to reach their fullest potential - spiritually, socially, educationally and occupationally. We provide community-based drug education, prevention and restoration programs.
Teen Challenge is the oldest, largest and most successful program of its kind in the world. Established in 1958 by David Wilkerson, Teen Challenge has grown to more than 170 centres in the United States and 250 centres worldwide. If you would like to know how Teen Challenge started, it's told in the book "The Cross and the Switchblade".
The success of the Teen Challenge approach to helping men and women trapped by addictions has been seen in many cultures around the world.
Teen Challenge has a special ministry of standing between the street and the church. Our ministry is not just in the church or our centres but also on the streets, online, and in the youth groups and schools. We try to stay current with youth affairs. It is our goal to be effective in ministry. We want to have answers for the people who come. It is our desire to do more than simply pray for people, important as that is.
Teen Challenge in South Australia is unique in several respects.
1. We have a high level of outreach and provide food and clothing for the needy
2. We operate a church
3. We provide long-term accommodation
4. We are primarily a volunteer organisation
