It took us 12 min to drive to Grey Lynn to finally visit this vegan cafe called Tart Bakery. I had to go try their food ! Can't say that it was a disappointment, so please know i am not making a complaint - i'll lead to my point & suggestion at the end. The vegan pies & pizza were awesome! It was just a downer to discover that staff wouldn't give out any plates or cutleries or cups for you to dine in at. It's all just paper plates, paper bag, and paper cup. I have my own coffee mug and travel cutleries in the car, but I had to grab a dog with a thick blanket, + a camera bag. I didn't have the chance to go get the mug when ordering the drink at the counter. I expected to be given a porcelain mug when I was going to eat in. It felt quite informal. it was actually quite cold & windy that day. But with a dog, we needed to sit outside. Having only paper containers while sitting outside didn't make the experience better despite the healthy good food. I understand that it will eliminate the need to wash any dishes. So now that I know, I just make sure to take my own plates and mugs with me next time to the counter : I recommend the pie & the pizza. They were so yummy - the pizza I brought home to put in the oven, because i was given it cold by the staff. It was amazing after going through the oven! The almond croissant etc I bought just to try were way to sweet. If you like extremely sweet things, they're yummy. I feel the sugar level need to be turned down by 70%.
Really love the vegan food I have tried from here! Fav things so far have been two flavoured danish, the peanut butter choc slice and one of the sandwiches lemon chiken on right? A bit pricey but understandable since they are Vegan options. I’m sure I will return : thanks!
I live just down the road and never thought I’ll find this hidden tasty full of deliciousness near my door step. I’m lactose intolerance and I used enjoy all the pastries and then stopped because of bloating. But now I can eat as much as I can from Tart and guess what they let me have a free one to taste. Love you all. Definitely be back on regular basis
{Commercial Bay location} Simply excellent! I was visiting Auckland and was thrilled to discover Tart. The outlet might be kiosk/small in size but is bursting with Vegan goodies. The vegan croissants, fruit danish, pizza slices and sandwiches were superb. The young lady managing the eatery was delightful and had a lovely peaceful aura. Go early as they sell out fast.
This place is amazing. As a non- vegetarian/vegan I thought I would struggle to find something I fancied. Tart Bakery greatly exceeded my expectations. Such an amazing selection of pastries, pies, and deliciousness. I even enjoyed the oat milk coffee.
Bought their pie & sandwich for late lunch and it contradicts from the sign outside. I definitely cannot say it's the best treats in the world.. I get what they are trying to do, but this is over exaggeration. The pie was dry and not warm enough for me. Lastly, the sandwich had way too much butter to compensate for dense bread and salad in the sandwich was wilted and lost the texture.. Overall experience was disappointing, but will try again in the future.
The sign said Supreme Award Winner 2022/23 Chicken/Mushroom Pie, the most disgusting pie I have tasted. Like what did I just bite into, all I was left with was a mouthful of pepper slodge. The Mince/Cheese was so disappointing too, what is with all the herbs, they literally over powered the taste of the pie, yuckkkk. Come on Tart pick up your game, your flavour is so ordinary and dull. You're location is ideal to be in, but judging by my experience yesterday, you won't be there for too long if you continue with those flavors. You have lost a loyal customer.
Amazing vegan / plant based bakery. I always enjoy the food from here, whether it's donuts, sandwiches, pastries, savoury rolls, etc, etc. Only problem is I always buy too many things
We frequented Tart when we lived in Auckland 4 years ago so it was a real treat going back to see how they have expanded! Still absolutely delicious bakery staples vegan-ised. Well done Phillipa and team!
Nice pastry The flat white was nice and the saleswoman very kind
