I’m disappointed. I started studying back in July, and for the first two weeks, we struggled to understand the student portal because it was extremely dense. On top of that, the constant reminders from the teacher, who kept saying she was an “educator” and not a teacher, made it clear she didn’t really know how to teach. It seemed like TAFE had hired her simply because she worked in the field and could reveal the “secrets of the trade.” No one liked her much, and then we got the news that she was leaving for a two-month holiday.nnDuring her absence, we had five different teachers or “educators” who helped us with our assignments, and we managed to complete six or seven. We were happy, feeling ahead of the game and ready to start workplace training. However, when Trish, the “educator,” came back from her holiday, she was different. She seemed unhappy, and everyone in the class could feel it. She didn’t like anything we were doing or how we were doing it, and kept warning us that if we didn’t follow her methods, we wouldn’t get our certificate. It was frustrating because her classes were just endless readings of documents and PowerPoint slides. I could have done that at home rather than sitting in a classroom from 8 am to 3 or 4 pm.nnSince she saw herself as an “educator” rather than a teacher, there was no actual teaching—just non-stop reading. Then, in the first week of October 2024, every single one of the assignments we had previously completed with the help of the other teachers came back as “unsatisfactory” for all of us. We all were shocked We now had to redo all the old assignments plus the new ones. And you might think it was just minor corrections, but no. We had to correct things like names, dates, numeral formats, and even re-label self-explanatory images. When I told her we had worked together on the assignments with the support of other teachers, she dismissed my concerns and just said, “Get it done, would you?”nnI barely had any time left to submit the old and new assignments, and I also had workplace training, family commitments, and work. When I mentioned my job, she said I shouldn’t be working because I was studying. I replied that I didn’t realise these courses were only for unemployed people. Eventually, I decided to withdraw, as many others before me had done. I’m disappointed, but I’ll try again and hopefully, next time, I’ll have a proper teacher, not just an “educator.”
If I could give zero stars I would! If you want to be treated with respect and have adult learning go anywhere else but here. It is unprofessional with unjust treatment towards students. Even university staff treat their students with more respect, there is no excuse for these power tripping so called teachers. Don't waste your money here.
You need to have friendlier people to work in the Student services downstairs. The young man with too much hair on his face treats people that come there as if he was handing out his parents wealth or something. He forgot that people that study or looking to study there are paying for what he earns. Don't take Customer service jobs if you don't have what it takes.
Dear tafe, please hire people who are willing to listen to student queries with patience and respond accordingly instead of smugs who don’t even want to have to listen or answer more than one question. Had a terrible experience with the student services downstairs, got spoken to in a very condescending tone and ended up with no proper answer to the original question. Please understand that no one goes to student service to waste anyone’s time.
Poor customer service, specially for english courses! Semmed like the guy didnt want to talk or even help on questions. Had to wait a time as well and there was no anyone before me.nnIf you want to feel welcomed and supported on your process I wouldn’t suggest this place.
