--- TAFE Southport QLD Nursing Diploma EN course ---nnI recently withdrew from the Diploma of Nursing at TAFE Southport and am going elsewhere to study.nnStage 1 was bearable, but Stage 2 Residential School was nothing short of a nightmare.nnNever before have I experienced such an unprofessional and, at times, absurd learning environment.nnI strongly advise against the residential school delivery mode unless you’re prepared to learn complex clinical skills in just one or two days and then be assessed with 100% accuracy within the same week. For many students, that’s simply not enough time to absorb and consolidate new knowledge - it was incredibly stressful.nnThere was very little scaffolding or gradual skill-building before assessments. Being given only two or three brief practice sessions before being tested to perfection doesn’t set students up for success. From what I’ve discussed with registered nurses, this approach is very different from nursing degrees, where students are given far more supported learning before assessment.nnWhat I witnessed were stressed students who felt too afraid to speak up.nnHad I better understood how this course is delivered, I never would have enrolled in this format. I truly don’t believe this model reflects evidence-based educational practice.
Tafe Southport Campus Nursing is nothing short of amazing!! I have loved my 2 years studying here. The teachers were amazing and just so very supportive and I am so proud to go out and say I am a tafe graduate!! Keep up the amazing work you do because you all do an outstanding work!! I will be forever thankful.
We purchased 3 x tickets for our daughter's graduation through a link e-mailed by Tafe. Just to be told at the door that the tickets are not valid and we had to purchase more tickets. Nobody willing to resolve the issue.
I’m disappointed. I started studying back in July, and for the first two weeks, we struggled to understand the student portal because it was extremely dense. On top of that, the constant reminders from the teacher, who kept saying she was an “educator” and not a teacher, made it clear she didn’t really know how to teach. It seemed like TAFE had hired her simply because she worked in the field and could reveal the “secrets of the trade.” No one liked her much, and then we got the news that she was leaving for a two-month holiday.nnDuring her absence, we had five different teachers or “educators” who helped us with our assignments, and we managed to complete six or seven. We were happy, feeling ahead of the game and ready to start workplace training. However, when Trish, the “educator,” came back from her holiday, she was different. She seemed unhappy, and everyone in the class could feel it. She didn’t like anything we were doing or how we were doing it, and kept warning us that if we didn’t follow her methods, we wouldn’t get our certificate. It was frustrating because her classes were just endless readings of documents and PowerPoint slides. I could have done that at home rather than sitting in a classroom from 8 am to 3 or 4 pm.nnSince she saw herself as an “educator” rather than a teacher, there was no actual teaching—just non-stop reading. Then, in the first week of October 2024, every single one of the assignments we had previously completed with the help of the other teachers came back as “unsatisfactory” for all of us. We all were shocked We now had to redo all the old assignments plus the new ones. And you might think it was just minor corrections, but no. We had to correct things like names, dates, numeral formats, and even re-label self-explanatory images. When I told her we had worked together on the assignments with the support of other teachers, she dismissed my concerns and just said, “Get it done, would you?”nnI barely had any time left to submit the old and new assignments, and I also had workplace training, family commitments, and work. When I mentioned my job, she said I shouldn’t be working because I was studying. I replied that I didn’t realise these courses were only for unemployed people. Eventually, I decided to withdraw, as many others before me had done. I’m disappointed, but I’ll try again and hopefully, next time, I’ll have a proper teacher, not just an “educator.”
Their customer service definitely needed to be improved. They treated the recent international graduation student really disrespectful and with bad attitude. Considered how much tuition we paid before and they taught customers service courses. That’s really ironic. Their staff should be retrained surely. Especially Aton. Really awful attitude.
