A wonderful hotel with lovely spaces indoors and out to enjoy a meal and/or a drink. I particularly loved the heaters for the outdoor dining. I enjoyed a comfy bench seat near the bar.nnStaying nearby at The Watson , the Sussex was a short walk away. I enjoyed the steak perfectly cooked for med rare with a bottle of sparkling water but the wine list looked amazing as did the beers on tap.nnThe service was attentive , helpful and friendly.nnOn the Monday night that I visited it was popular, but there was no need to book.
The young man that was attending to us when we arrived, I would give him 10/10 polite and helpful. The food was quite nice.The wedges were amazing & very easy to eat!! The sticky date pudding, wasn’t eaten, as it was way too dry.nLucky the waitress didn’t charge us for it.nBut the biggest down side was the noise level. We couldn’t hear each other very well. We were put next to a very loud chatty table. But I feel the tables were way too close together. We asked if we could be moved somewhere quieter. But sadly we couldn’t, to me it spoilt our lunch together. If I was to return I would be more selective with where my table booking was.
We recently revisited the Sussex Hotel after more than 10 years, and it was an incredible experience. The place looks fantastic. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, making us feel welcome. The food was outstanding—we ordered spiced chicken, kangaroo meat, barramundi, and more. Everything was not only delicious but also beautifully presented.
The food and service was absolutely perfect in every way, we ordered porterhouse steak medium rare and it was a delight to eat,.the barramundi was the best we ever tried and the lamb shoulder 100% yummy. A huge thanks to all the staff for a wonderful and welcoming experience.
Great venue, typical of the presentation of Matthews' Group venues. Excellent vibe, food, and service thanks to their staff.nnHead on in for a cheeky cocktail by mixologist extraordinaire, Lilly.nnAsk for a 'Between two Thorns'
