4.5/5 nnChef Yong puts creativity and innovation at the forefront of his service and it’s what sets him apart from other Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. You’re greeted with a sleek, minimalistic venue once you step inside, seated only 8 guests for 1 dinner session, where the focus is entirely on Chef Yong. You’ll be treated to 22 courses for $220pp.nnWhilst I don’t recall the name of every dish we had I can confidently say that there was nothing that we didn’t enjoy. As you’d expect at this price point, everything is incredibly fresh and carefully prepared. We had the pleasure of being seated in the centre, so we were marvelling at Chef Yong’s work for the entire 1.5hr.nnWhile my previous omakase experience was unforgettable for its own reasons, this experience was refreshingly different. Chef Yong had genuine engagement with his guests and took the time to talk to us about the intricacies and decisions that go into such an experience. I also thoroughly enjoyed that almost every piece of fish had a nice creative flare to it, whether it be pickled seaweed on top, drizzles of lime, shiitake soy glaze or scallop salt.nnHaving been to an omakase which was much cheaper $140pp, I felt that the quality of fish between these two experiences was quite similar. For that reason, I’d be more inclined to go to the more affordable option, despite it having a much simpler menu.nnI’d still absolutely recommend Sushi On to anyone looking for a fantastic omakase experience, but for those who don’t want to break the bank, I do think we have a similar option available for a lesser price.nnNevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and have been smiling about it ever since.
