Here’s a take away Katsu that cost $15.90nnHalf filled, tiny bit of sauce.nnWould not go back. Disappointing.
Small little sushi shop hidden across from Aldi, a little hard to find if you don’t know where to look. Drove around the shopping centre to locate itnnA few Booths to sit, and so we ordered via the tabletnnPortions are bigger than the other stores, so wife could not finish her usual dishesnnKids enjoyed their avo rolls
This is a cute little Japanese sushi joint, conveniently located in the Kenmore Plaza, next to the Woolies Supermarket. There is ample free parking in the centre’s car park, and the public toilets are right outside.nnE.S. still use the old fashioned tablet method of self-ordering, which is quite frustrating as you can only send one item through at a time. I found this a tad tedious and time-consuming, especially having gotten used to the much faster and more efficient app ordering system that is now “de rigueur” at many pub bistros across the city, and where you can accumulate the whole order, before sending it off once, for fulfilment. The positioning of the tablet, on the wall behind the table also made it difficult to use, and the rather dim lighting didn’t help either.nnE.S. has a sushi counter as well as tables, you can mix and match your preferences to suit. We sat at a table, helped ourselves to a few sushi plates and also ordered a beer, a hot dish and rice, with the tablet.nnThe seating was booth style, but with limited leg room, which made it slightly uncomfortable, especially if you’re a tallish person. But despite these drawbacks, this is still clearly a popular place because even though it was a Monday night, there was still a solid turnout of diners. I don’t think that they take bookings, so my suggestion is to arrive early, as we did, to ensure a table. By early I mean before 6pm for dinner.nnThe ambience here is super casual, relaxed and laid back and the acoustics are good, even though there are no carpets, just timber floors, stone tables which were a bit grubby and wooden furniture with upholstered seats.nnService by our waitress was friendly, helpful and efficient and to her credit she dealt with the food delivery for inhouse diners, takeaway orders and payments as well, with a nice smile and there was no long wait for our order. It all seems to run smoothly here at E.S. in Kenmore.nnBut the main drawcard, and I suspect the reason for its popularity is the high quality of the food offerings. Everything that we had, from the sushi to the chicken teriyaki and rice for a main course, just hit the right note: It was all fresh and tasty and infused with those subtle and delicate Japanese flavours that we’ve come to love so much. We choose a selection of different sushi from the sushi train, mainly of the chicken and tuna varieties. The rolls were neat and chunky, stuffed full of flavoursome ingredients. I especially liked their newest addition, the crispy chicken with honey mustard. After that lot we ordered a chicken teriyaki and a serve of rice to share. That was a winner too, with lashings of finely sliced, tender chicken and a selection of colourful vegetables including capsicums, shallots and beans. The small bowl of fluffy white rice was the perfect accompaniment.nnPrices are moderate in this era of hyperinflation. A bottle of my fav Japanese Sapporo lager was 8 pesos. Sushi plates off the train are 5 apiece I remember that just a yr or so ago, they were averaging 4 at most sushi joints. The chicken teriyaki was good val at 17, and the bowl of rice was 3. What I especially like about this place is that they offer a 3% discount for cash, an example that all businesses should follow. So altogether, for four sushi plates, a beer, a bottle of water, a chicken teriyaki and a bowl of rice, we paid a reasonable 47 pesos. Can’t complain about that.nnOverall, a pleasant and relaxed evening at E.S., with excellent, fine food, a cool and relaxed vibe, fast service, easy parking, clean toilets and modest prices. Couldn’t ask for more. I’m sure that we’ll be back.
The Sushi Edo brand always produces consistent good quality sushi. The mixture between self determination with an iPad to order and the suspense of a traditional sushi train means you don't have to wait long for your favourite dishes.
I went to a lot of Sushi Edo restaurants before, but this would be the best one thus far!nnFresh ingredients, seamless processes with no chaos, so streamlined and food tastes so good!nnCouldn’t recommend this more, a must if you love sushi.
