Story

Sunspun is the elder stateswoman of Melbourne knitting shops; we’ve been around since the early 1980’s but, after a recent change of hands, we’re bringing the old girl up to date! We have lots of changes in the works, including a new website, and there are new yarns and other essentials arriving weekly.

We sell fine yarns (including Rowan, Shibui, Isager, Shilasdair, Skein, Debbie Bliss, Ella Rae, Milla Mia, Zara and Noro), as well as tools and equipment for knitting and crochet (Addi, Brittany, Clover, Knitpro).

We also run lots of classes; you can read about them and other things happening in the shop on our blog.

Sunspun is my go-to yarn store, especially because they stock my favorite La Bien Aimée yarn! They offer a great selection of unique yarns from both national and international sources. The customer service is fantastic, and their advice is always helpful. I was particularly impressed with my latest shipment, which was thoughtfully packed with extra cardboard to prevent any accidental damage to the yarn. Thank you, Sunspun!
Beautiful yarn shop with a gorgeous selection of yarn, which is ordered in a well thought out way in the store. Unfortunately the staff are disinterested at best and verging on rude. I was left alone, which at first I liked, because it gave me a chance to look around. But after a while... it was strange how the staff were just ignoring me. I had a question, which I only got answered when I flagged someone down. That person answered politely but then quickly left, making it quite clear I was interrupting her from other customers. The other staff member was even worse, made me feel like I was about to shoplift. I was clearly a knitter, wearing a handmade shawl made out of expensive yarn. I've visited many yarn shops around the world all of which had polite, and sometimes very friendly service. Not so here. I got the feeling the staff couldn't wait for me to leave and even worse I couldn't wait to leave. I even checked myself in the mirror in the car was my hair messy? my face dirty? nope. Clothes clean but maybe not posh, Surrey hills enough. Lovely yarn but I'd never shop there again.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be leaving a review for this wonderful seller! This was my second purchase from Sunspun. A little while ago I contacted them with a second request - one I accepted was impossible to fulfil. To my surprise Karen came back to me confirming Yes, they could get it in for me. Well, YAY WHOOP WHOOP! my package arrived and I’m simply over the moon. The service was outstanding and much faster than I had thought. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your wonderful help. I love my items and know I’ll get good use from them.
Lovely shop with some yummy yarns including the only spot in Australia with Marie Wallin's British Breeds. They also have La Bien Aimee, Great Southern and other squeezable stuffs just to name a few. Just go for the squoosh and come out with your next project,
