Food My wife and I dined on a quiet Mon night in late Nov. Between us, we shared a mixed entrée, a curried beef, an Indian salad and to accompany that, a bowl of basmati rice and a serve of garlic and cheese naan. For dessert, what else, but our favourite Gulab jamun? Unfortunately, this place does not sell alcohol, so for drinks, it was a mango lassi and a sprite. It’s hard to pinpoint the best dish because everything was so delicious: It was all fresh, tasty and infused with those delicate and aromatic Indian herbs and spices that we love so much. The mixed entrée plate had a nice, varied selection: Samosas, tandoori chicken pieces, cubed beef and onion bhaji. The beef main course was tender, flavoursome and well cooked in a mild curry sauce. The fluffy rice, melt-in-your-mouth naan bread and little salad made the perfect accompaniments. Servings sizes were generous, and there were even some leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day. Service This is where this place really excels. The hands-on owner is a super friendly, polite and congenial host who will make you feel welcome the moment you walk into his restaurant. He was chatty and attentive, and made sure that everything ran smoothly from beginning to end. Drinks, entrée, main meals and desserts came out quickly and in the correct order, despite them being busy fulfilling a steady stream of take-away and home delivery orders, which I assume has now become the staple of their business. Those of you who are familiar with my reviews, will know how much I dislike restaurants that prioritise their take-away and home delivery customers over their in-house diners. This wasn’t the case at S.K. The service throughout the evening was fast and efficient. Atmosphere You’ll feel like you’re in a bit of a time warp at S.K. It’s decorated in a retro Indian style, with thick dark carpets, exotic arches and colourful religious and spiritual artefacts and decorations on the walls. Except it’s not really retro by design, it probably hasn’t been updated in decades. The owner told me that they’ve been here since the 80s, and it shows. Nevertheless, the effect is to create a warm, inviting and homely atmosphere that has a nice oriental feel to it. The wooden furniture is solid and comfortable. It was pretty empty the night we dined: Apart from us, there was only one other occupied table, which did make for a rather quiet atmosphere. Cost After our 25% Entertainment Club discount we paid a modest 60 shekels for two drinks, an entrée plate, a salad, a beef curry, rice, naan bread and dessert. Certainly can’t complain about that, especially when Australia is in the grip of a Weimar Republic-like hyperinflation crisis. Toilets There are clean and well provisioned toilets down a fairly long flight of stairs, with separate mail and female cubicles. Parking There’s plenty of street parking on Given Terrace or any one of the nearby side streets. We parked on Campbell Street, behind the famous “Paddo'' pub and bistro, a short, easy walk to S.K. Summary We had a pleasant evening at S.K., and everything ran smoothly. There’s no need to book. Food is outstanding, service is friendly and efficient and the ambience is chilled, relaxed and laid back. Add to that, modest prices, clean toilets and easy street parking, and you have all the ingredients for a pleasant evening in Paddington.
Possibly the best curry I have had in Brisbane by a long shot. We got two vegan ones. My favourite part of the restaurant was the man who served us. He talked to us and made us so happy to be there. Would definitely go back
Very disappointed in the size of their take away curries... Over $30 on Uber Eats for this portion size is saddening after a long day's work.. For reference, this container is the size of my palm. Further, cheese and naan was basically just bread given the lack of garlic and cheese. In hindsight, I wish I took a photo of this too.
Have been coming to Sultan's Kitchen since the mid-90s, and went for a takeaway/pick-up tonight after having not been for a few years. Glad to know it's always, there, always open, and is as good as it always was. The curries mix veg, beef vindaloo, were excellent - good cuts of meat, and a good mix of vegetables, the samosas have always been the best in Brisbane their pastry is like no other samosa anywhere - lovely and crispy and the plain naans are so reasonable for the size, and delicious! The staff/owners are always friendly. We'll not leave it so long to come back.
Easily the best Indian restaurant in Brisbane. From quality to service, everything here is amazing. 10/10 highly recommend! Love it.
First time phone order for dinner. Very tasty food, well priced. Service was impeccable, ease of ordering over the phone, and welcoming service on arrival for pickup. Will return.Food: 4/5
Beautiful Indian themed decor. The owner of the restaurant was there to greet you with a warm smile. Quick efficient service by the wait staff. We had the mixed entrees it was a tasty selection of finger foods cooked beautifully well balanced flavours. We had lamb korma, beef roghan Josh , mixed grilled tandoori platter, garlic naan with raita and lamb Biryani . Best Indian restaurant we've been too.
Sultans Kitchen delivers exceptional Indian cuisine and showcases the vast array of flavours that come from the subcontinent. Signature dishes include lamb korma and chicken tikka masala.
The best and most authentic Indian food you'll ever have, the curry is always perfect and the atmosphere as well as the service is lovely. 11/10!Food: 5/5
Great service, and amazing food. Loved Mughlai chicken and Gulab Janam. BBQ could be improved though.
