Sukhothai Restaurant

I love this place with all my heart, a quiet, warm and sumptuous atmosphere, wonderful people and the food is sublime. Sukhothai has been serving my family the best Thai food for decades for birthdays, anniversaries and regular take-aways. They are also responsible for helping bringing to Melbourne world class Thai food since the eighties. They will be deeply missed – thank you Sukhothai for all you have brought to us. <3

Several weeks ago I ordered a stir-fry dish, fried rice, and pork spring rolls. Stir fry and fried rice were nice, if a bit small in size. The pork spring rolls however were inedible. I have never had such awful spring rolls before. Potential customers: please don't order these spring rolls. Owners: please get some other spring rolls. *Edit: Also, owners, a review does not mean it was from the weekend before. Your pork spring rolls did not at all taste hand-made, maybe you had run out of your usual ones, I am not sure. There is an insinuation in your response that my review is not legitimate; not a great look, I can prove my order if you'd like.

Service is friendly, ambiance is nice. Our meal was partially disappointing. The grilled chicken salad was good, however we ordered two fish containing dishes, they were both dipped in batter and deep fried making the fish very dry. I ordered red curry with fish, expecting succulent pieces of fish fillet like I've had in other establishments, instead I had 1 to 2 cm size pieces deep fried and inedible. I went with high expectations after the reviews I read, but left feeling let down. However, entrees and fried ice cream are good.

Very disappointing first time experience. Ordered delivery via uber and got someone else's food because they had stapled my order receipt to the wrong bag. The serving size of the main was appalling in comparison to other thai restaurants in northcote/thornbury given the prices they charge. Thankfully I got my money back from ubereats but restaurants that get my first order wrong are ones I don't go back to.

First of all, the ambience wins my heart. I love the way they decorate the place. Comes to food, we had an amazing Pad Thai and Tom Yum. On the side we have satay and Por Pia. They are all amazingly delicious! Kudos to the chef who cooked and served our food.

I’ve been a fan of this place in the past, even been invited to enter the kitchen to compliment the chef, and deservedly so as the food is generally excellent. Last time I ordered home delivery the duck came in a larger container. This time it came in a smaller container and when we phoned to raise my concern I was told that this wouldn’t be the case, when it most definitely was my experience. I was still hungry after finishing my meal. It seems I will unfortunately have to wait to dine in again as home delivery just doesn’t add up.. The 3 stars a generous as the other meals were proportionate and tasty. Sad to write this review, but true. If you’re after home delivered value go elsewhere, or if budget allows order an extra dish...

Most awesome Thai restaurant I have visited in a long time! I may be from out of town, but this sure impressed the socks of me. Delicious fresh ingredients and most original and delectable menu. Great wines on the list too.

The atmosphere and decor is very nice, however I found the food to be very overpriced compared to other Thai restaurants. The best dish was the pad thai. I found the male waiter to be a bit strange. He returned to our table throughout the night encouraging us to upgrade our meals and order more even though we weren't interested. He also forgot to make our cocktails because he was too interested in talking to some of his friends at another table - it wasn't until we alerted the lady who looked like the owner that she snapped him into action!

Ate here tonight for the first time party of 3. The food was fresh, delish and came out without delay. Service was standout. The owner clearly cares about his customers, talking to each table with genuine interest and interesting chat. We all had a really great time on top of the great food. All your thai staples are sorted at Sukhothai. We ordered different stir fries, nothing overcooked, perfect balance of meat & crisp veg, just right. This is old school great service. Reminded us why uber eats will never beat great service, great food and the fun of eating out.
