We have been wanting to visit this restaurant for some time & after yesterday's meal , it has been our loss not to have visited sooner. The food is 9.5/10. Really , that good . Mixed oysters to die for. Mains better ! - see photos - they do not do it justice. Service is ,...... how can I put this,... unique, but GREAT, & for us , friendly , personal & memorable. You need to experience it to get it. If you have special needs , do your research, check the menu & let them know beforehand. They will help you out given fair warning. We are going back next week & probably the week after.
Had the pleasure of dining here recently for a friends birthday dinner. Generously large portion sizes of delicious European flavours. Quick and friendly service and we were made to feel very welcome. They also offer a very extensive wine list but just be aware of the prices. Personally, after over hearing a conversation that took place right next to our table and at a very loud volume, I believe the staff could be spoken to with a bit more care from management as customers shouldn’t be privy to that level of animosity. It made for an uncomfortable situation
So impressed with the clam chowder holland soup! We were welcomed by the freshly baked pretzels, tap bier and share plate are immaculate also! They also packed whatever we couldn’t finished. Not to mention the extremely friendly owner and very professional manager of the restaurant. Definitely need to come back.
I had oysters and a pork knuckle. The oysters were fresh and delicious, the pork was amazing and tender with a good amount of crackle. The service was also fantastic, we will be back!
Great food and great service. A lovely hodgepodge menu to tickle everyone's taste buds.
Food was amazing. Had the caviar, schnapper and venison. Amazing!
Traditional European foods and run by family. They have been in the market since 1961. Came in a Saturday after pandemic and it is still very busy. Owner really like to engage with customers which is good. However, their staff need to be trained properly. We did could hear the owner shout to their staff. He couldn’t address their staff’s name which is a bit rude. Food is good and general portions.
This restaurant made me fall in love with German food. The owners are so friendly and food is amazing. The environment is very pleasant and enjoyable. Will definitely come back soon.
Honestly I was looking forward to eating here because the menu looked great online! It was nice having pretzels at the table, however some were super chewy- until I realised we were charged for them even when we didn’t ask for them? But nonetheless, we are average pretzels. I had the clam Holland chowder, which was well seasoned, but not so fresh. My friends had sharing plates in which the floor manager kept insisting on, and took the menus before they could even say yes. He nearly counted me before I told him I didn’t want the plate and I would like clam Holland chowder. Portions were big and filling definitely, but quality/freshness again was below average. There were a few fruit flies that kept hovering around us. A waiter happily replaced my friends wine when it had some sort of particle on the glass. But the floor manager was either super blunt or rude to us about ordering and talking to us in general. He was also very rude to his own waiter/waitress in front of us. They were trying to manoeuvre things on our table to make room for the big dessert plates, but he rolled his eyes and sighed behind us and said ‘come on guys, just put the plates down- so slow’ in annoyance. It was just rude and awkward to hear his frustrations at his employees. So unprofessional. The waiter/waitress were nice and friendly. Prices are a bit expensive. Especially when it comes to wine. Like $20 for one glass of wine that we didn’t find out until we checked the bill at the end. And I also highly suggest for someone to read over the specials page of the menu to correct the capital words of ‘ASPERGUS’- pretty sure it was supposed to Asparagus, but it can definitely be interpreted very wrong. Desserts were good! Apple fritters kind of tasted very oily, and the crème brûlée tasted a bit old and like it’s been uncovered in the fridge. If you’re a wine and German/european food lover, I would recommend to try this place if you’re desperate. The wine selection however is impeccable. But always make sure to stand your ground and always look at the pricing!
On a close friend’s recommendation, we flew down from Brisbane specifically for dinner at Stuyvesant's House to see Rudi, Max & co. As others have said, this dining experience is not for everyone; however for those who love warmth, honesty & laughter - you will remember the experience & find yourself smiling. The food is utterly spectacular, Rudi takes time out to spend with all his guests and the wines are decadent. Was it worth flying down to Sydney just to visit? Yes, and we'll do it again in the near future.
