Too many rules! Staff is very rude and ignorant. They ignore your concerns no matter how upset you are with it. The unit is very filthy. It will be filthy even the day you move in. Not appropriate living conditions. Too many bugs and roaches roaming around. You can't have an overnight visitor without paying extra for it. All they are concerned with is money without providing you basic comfort. Don't respond saying we don't have record of you because since I am still a resident I am purposely reviewing with different name to avoid living in even worse condition for my remaining time. I am planning to move out very soon
Its nice and safe for stay with enough space in units. Flowers blown everywhere which makes more lovely
Student Village is the worst place for living that I have ever lived. The staff's rude and often ignore any problems in units. The price does not include Wi-Fi and laundry, and they take 300 percent price for the replacement of any items that they provide. If something from items disappear, you will never prove that you didn't do anything. Moreover, you don't allowed using any personal heaters, so it is very cold there in winter time.
It’s filthy, maintenance should be monthly. Showers leaked and staff were horrendous. The expectations for leaving are intense, you need to make sure all the screws are screwed and that the floors look like floors it’s not the Tennent’s job to make sure the place is clean for the next person.
The one star is for the costs only. It's affordable for sure. Your experience may largely depend on who you are roomed with but from what I've heard you'll be lucky if you get roommates there that are tidy and/or organised. Some of mine drove me crazy with their bad hygiene and messiness which student village did nothing about. My other roommate told me that her last roommates were much worse than the ones we had so that should give you a good picture. I find that they have WAY too many rules in student village when it comes to certain things. Some of the things they charge you for are ridiculous. If you forget your keys in your bedroom or something they charge you $55 just to get back inside and if you lose your keys for good you have to pay $300+ and just to have someone stay overnight you have to get a letter signed by every roommate in the house which can be difficult because they can often be away or out at different times to stay over AND pay a fee for them to sleep over. The parking there is terrible and people are always fighting for space. Recently they've said that if any visitors aren't in the parking space put there for visitors which is fine if it's close to your house then they will get the cars towed. I highly recommend checking if your room has a skyline above the bed too. One of my roommates has trouble sleeping in the morning because it's so bright and the village wouldn't let her do anything about it for "safety reasons". So if you like your sleep check that first. One bathroom is nice and has a bathtub but the other is absolutely tiny and has barely any space to move in the shower, and I'm a small person. There is only one semi small fridge for five people to share so all we got was one shelf to put all our stuff on each. They provide very little in the way of cooking. There isn't that much cutlery, plates or glasses provided and I think there was only one saucepan to share between everyone and no towels for wiping up dishes. They do have some cleaning supplies there like a mop and vacuum cleaner which was crappy and hardly worked in my house. I've found that the administration office is really unhelpful with personal issues. If you go to them about a problem they will usually just tell you they will "see what they can do" and then never get back to you about it. I am not the only one who has experienced this as my other roommate was complaining about it too. Bu as soon as there is money involved they want to jump on anyone they can about it to charge people. The shops that are across the road are really small and you can only really get your basics from there the only fruit they sold when I went were apples and bananas. They might have something else but there wasn't much. If you like anything in particular you may still have to bus it to somewhere better so don't move there just because there are shops close. It's not really worth it. Honestly the only good thing about the place is that it's not expensive, you don't have to pay for electricity, water or gas and it is really close to the university. I would rather go somewhere a bit more expensive than return to Student Village ever again.
I lived here for 3 years and found it to be one of my better sharehome experiences. Each room has its own lease, the common areas are tidied regularly by a dedicated cleaning team. Basic kitchen supplies are provided, and there is plenty of pantry space, and the rooms are supplied with all necessary furniture. Fridge space is limited for the larger units, but it is a sharehouse, and I've never experienced anything different. The office are accommodating to room requests, and if you make the time to be friendly with them, they are generally pleasant. Some of the fees are a bit excessive, but it's an upfront fee that you're advised of when you sign your contract. The only negatives I found about this place were the parking availability, and other inconveniences that are a result of living in a sharehome. Yes some people are messier than you, and the administration aren't willing to step in on personal issues. I found that with some open communication with my housemates, most issues could be resolved, and when they could not be, the administration were very accommodating with room transfers I stayed in 4 different rooms. If you don't like housemates, then this will not suit you, or pay a few extra dollars a week to live in a smaller unit. Would move here again if returning to university.
Student Village is a nightmare mostly because of the staff. All three staff - Patricia, Hope and the manager, are just really really rude. Hope is really passive aggressive, she might call you Sir/Mam, but OMG ask them for smallest of things and they start rolling their eyes. There will never be a smile on their faces. Further management does not try to help you at all, one of the people I know were made to live with a guy suffering from TUBERCULOSIS. For real, they did not take any action and told me to address the matter with the resident. The same resident who did not disclose the illness and I only learned about it because the hospital contacted me - thank god. Their charging is predatory. Once I forgot my key inside the room, and they charged me 55 to open the room. During my time here I have seen crazy loud parties, a unit catching fire for real, two times the resident driving into the unit, egg fight by an African mob in here, other time walking from uni late at night I was attached by an African guy.I must say the security has improved, and they have locked the area only for residents, put night lights and camera, thank you for this student village. You can be totally assured about the safety here. But there is a lot left to be desired with the unpleasant and unhelpful staff. If you can afford it, planning your move in advance, please don't move here, you can find a room with almost equivalent pricing. If you are looking for a cheap place, don't have time to find another place, won't have a transport, then this will still be the best place to move. The experience can vary depending upon your housemates and you can't blame student village for it. It is a shame because the place is really close to the university, but staff here need to really get a hold of things. They cant bring their personal issues, be grumpy, rude, unhelpful and passive aggressive all day and expect the place to be filled of residents. Edit: As you went checking in records, possible that I will be treated bad, if I disclose my real identity. I am planning to move out in July when my agreement ends, and then if you are still interested in feedback, I will let you know.
I lived in a 3 bedroom unit. The facilities are as advertised with management quick to act on maintenance issues. The main determinant of your experience will be the people you live with. The only reason it was bumped to 4 stars was the beds are uncomfortable easy fixed by using own mattress and you are not allowed a washing machine in your unit despite the laundry.
I have never been in student village but my friend has. she said it is full of cockroaches roaming around the house and no one cares about hygiene. nights were too freezing due to lack of the heating system. she said it was awful.
I have never lost as much sleep as I did the year I lived in this place. The place is filthy, security can't do their jobs, loud people all hours of the night, and the rules are not enforced. I suggest you just get a group house close to the campus because this place is not worth your money.
