Booked a week ahead to access my storage unit at Storage Plus Richmond. Arrived on the due day. My box was not accessible, in fact it couldn't even be located (we're still not sure where it is). The whole place was a total mess. In the words of the employee present "I would be pissed off too if I were you. This place is a total mess. Even if I knew where your box was I wouldn't be able to get it down as our forklift is broken".

This place is local to me and reasonably priced for the service on offer. The storage units are made from plywood with two by four wooden structural supports and each comprise ten cubic metres. The units are stacked three high, thus you will need to book a time to access yours so they can retrieve it for you and have it waiting. You will need to provide a padlock for security. Ten cubic metres is a surprisingly large volume. About the size of a reasonable bathroom completely packed from back to front and top to bottom. You can also purchase in advance three different sized cardboard boxes at very reasonable prices: tea chests, good for clothes/manchester/larger items; and reassuringly sturdy glassware/crockery boxes; and also book/document boxes. Just don't lose your keys.

I had the worst experience with this storage company. I called twice to confirm that the storage units were an appropriate size for me to store my belongings in and confirm my booking. I arrived on the Saturday with my removalists and there was absolutely no acess to the units. They are just wooden boxes stacked all over the place in a big warehouse. They were too small for my belongings and The box that was meant to be for me was full of someone else’s stuff and the person working there had no solutions for me and ignored me. I had to call around to find another storage facility as Storage Plus was not a safe facility to hold anything important, which caused me a lot of stress and wasted money on removal fees. I would NOT recommend this company.

I initially was paying $99 a month then after a couple of months whilst overseas the prices went up to $149 without more than a months notice. I couldn't do anything other than pay to keep my storage box. I felt tricked into this jump in price and while emailing my concerns to the middle man he told me he had recieved a similar 300 emails and was powerless to do anything as his superiors were not responding to his emails. I was forced into paying extra due to being overseas without options and with no notice prior to starting my payments that to expect a price hike. I feel this is dishonest. Today I went in to get my things and was told rudely by a stand in that 24hrs notice needs to be given and because their computers are down I need to wait. I'm fine with waiting just not the rudeness I was met with- this business is disorganised due to poor backup staffing. If you run a business make sure you implement better backup plans and have back up paper filing to ensure technical faults don't inhibit usual business.
