Star of Greece

Story

Humble in appearance it may be, but this is a restaurant that doesn’t rely on grand architecture or pretension in terms of what it offers.
Doug and Nikki Govan consider themselves more as custodians rather than proprietors.
‘The stunning summer turquoise waters of Gulf St. Vincent, the beach and cliffs, the seascapes that change with the seasons, and the history of a Star of Greece shipwreck belong to all who visit.
Our passion is to provide a dining experience of exceptional quality that complements this unique and stunningly beautiful part of South Australia’s coastline’.
Fresh offerings from the sea and local produce are presented with a visual flair that excite without being a substitute for the essence of exceptionally good food is what the Star of Greece is all about, says Nikki whose background is an amalgam of food, wine, tourism, and a passion for excellence.
The wines on offer are a result of a similar philosophy, and Doug should know.
With thirty years in the hospitality industry and proprietor of the nearby Sellicks Beach Victory Hotel, with its esteemed restaurant and renowned wine cellar, Doug ensures that the Star of Greece has wines that compliment the food, the location and the occasion.

The Star of Greece is a shipwreck off the coast of Aldinga beach. It is an awesome spot to snorkel or dive and it is best to go when the tide is low. You can find the ship by walking down the path from the Star of Greece restaurant and continuing on past the rocks jutting out of the cliffs, at the first wildlife conservation sign, if the water is low, you should be able to see one of the masts poking out of the water. There are lots of fish at the wreck and plants. The ship goes on for about 50 metres underwater. Good for kids too.
Outstanding food, service and views. The staff were so lovely. We sat in the new section by the window at sunset which was just magical. All of the food was brilliant. The only suggestion I would have would be to remove the chargrilled prawns from the menu as they stink the place out every time someone orders them
Absolutely beautiful view of southern Australian coast from the deck. They offer a sit down menu that feels more like fine dining or a more casual option if you’re in a swimsuit getting a break from the beach and want to fish n chips. The service is very good despite being a popular spot. They have a well thought out seasonal menu with a vast drink menu. The coffee is also quite good. The muffins are incredibly dense but worth trying. BLT is also light and full of flavor.
Best dining experience I've had. Breathtakingly stunning view, beautifully cooked food and such a calming atmosphere. Will visit again.
Date night with stunning food and views. Each course was delicious and the right size to enjoy them all. Had the Lamb Shoulder and got to have bites of the eye fillet. Lamb you could cut with a spoon and desserts at sunset was nearly too much to take in. Highly recommend and very practical kids menu from the looks, will be back.
Our dining experience will probably rank in the top 5 of my life for the rest of my life, I found it that great. Service was kind, thoughtful and prompt. Flavours were fantastic. The setting was incredible as we were lucky to get a window seat. Just an all round lovely long lunch that I'll remember for a long time.
While this is an iconic destination- as locals, it’s such a privilege to have ‘fine and friendly’ dining on our doorstep. Great for a special occasion, and also great to treat yourself to a special lunch that is made from fine local produce, great options for drinks and excellent service with a price tag that is surprisingly good value for the experience. Oh and there’s quite a nice view!
Honesty worth a 6th star. Brilliant setting with uninterrupted views of the ocean and sunset. Fresh food, gorgeous ingredients, and brilliantly fairly priced. $220 for 2 people for 3 course dinner and drinks was outstanding. So homely. Fine dining without the price or pompous treatment. Loved it
Amazing! Beautiful location, wonderful food, wine and excellent service. The food is divine, no matter what you order. You overlook the beautiful waters of Port Willunga and the staff are very attentive, polite and knowledgeable.
Absolutely devine food. The flavours and textures were stunning. I have not had such a complete nice meal in a long. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious. Even the coffee I had with my dessert was made to perfection. It was actually so good we booked again to go back in July as soon as we got home. Do yourself a favour and book a table you won't be disappointed m Parking: Small car park next door and street parking available.
