I used to be an altar server at this church when I was doing a short semester of my university here. I loved the experience – the ancient liturgy, the friendly priests, the lovely church, and the wonderful community. This is my second home and I will not hesitate to come back whenever I’m in town. If you are looking for a good Catholic place of worship in Melbourne, this is the place to be!
The Latin Mass offered here is the closest to perfect way by which to worship our Lord. If you want to honour our Lord and Saviour in a way which is pleasing to God, this is one of few places to go in Melbourne.
As a Jewish convert to Catholicism, catechised in France, I had been keen to continue in the faith in an appropriately reverent context in Melbourne. Unfortunately I became very deflated by the egregiously irreverent standard and quality of Novus Ordo parishes, at my neighbourhood parish and even at the cathedral. However I found this wonderful Latin Mass parish and thank God for it. It is parish well run with many masses and several kind and brilliant priests and with a warm and friendly community who run various classes and social activities.
I’ve started coming to the Traditional Latin Mass for the first time in my life in August 2022, and have realised where I’ve been this whole time. This was a calling for me personally, I believe. The closest one I could find, and it has practically helped change me for the better, in spiritual knowledge and wisdom. Thanks be to God nnThis church is the place for you if you’re looking for a reverent, traditional Catholic community. Even those as young as Gen Z, please come! It’s a very welcoming parish and we’ll welcome you with open arms!nnGod be with you
Upon purchasing several items to be blessed from the the Catholic store in the city, affiliated with St Francis, the staff advised me to go directly to St Aloysius. I was advised to arrive ideally on a weekday after mass and to have my items blessed in the old rite by a priest. When I arrived shortly after 11am mass was at 10am no one was there, not a single priest was in sight and no one answered the doorbell. I called several times with no answer, I then called the mobile number publicly advertised for Fr Tattersall. His manner on the phone was truly shocking; he was extremely rude, arrogant and scolded me for calling him on his day off. I will not return to this parish again or get any precious item blessed by this man. Sadly, one’s true colours become clear when they are no longer standing in front of a crowd.
