Last night at karaoke was super busy, the busiest I had ever seen it on a Wednesday night. The staff were friendly and entertaining, and other than one old guy throwing a tantrum all the patrons were understanding. There were even some kids in the audience early in the night, and the drag queens adjusted their banter
I love Sporties. This independent hotel is friendly and non-pretentious but that doesn’t mean it isn’t pretty. I love arriving on Friday nights playing some pool and staying for the excellent cabaret and karaoke. At other times, it can be quiet and I like that too. A Brisbane gay institution.Rooms: 3/5
A brisbane institution! I've been going there for years and I've always had a good time. Very "cheers" vibe where everyone is always keen for a chat. Really good food even though they got rid of their legendary parmies. Definitely go for the gnocchi. If you're LGBTQIA+ in Brisbane this is definitely the place for you Rooms: Cheap budget rooms. But awesome for how much you pay Safety: I've never had a big issue at sporties. Only had a couple creepers Food and drinks: Basic pub grub done well! And cheaper fortitude valley pricing.
Had a meal there, prices are cheap. The chicken schnitzels were COOKED to outback brown and just as dry. My rump steak was divine. The karaoke was too loud while eating.Service: 5/5
Good place to socialise. Good vibes. I liked a party i attended. Very nice crowd. I dont find much to eat there. The feel of the hotel is retro style. The location is the best. I also like the karaoke.Service: 3/5
I loved it and I loved the employer Mister Ivan Nunn who was working there ! It was a huge pleasure to have met him ! Love Oliver from Berlin Rooms: Food and drinks:
The venue, known as "Sporties," surprised us with more than just a chicken schnitzel special on a Wednesday night. It's predominantly a gay-friendly spot, which was evident from the website. As one of the few straight couples present, we initially felt a bit out of place. However, the staff was welcoming, and the night turned out to be enjoyable with karaoke and a lucky prize draw, even though we didn't win anything despite having several tickets. The karaoke though did make it excessively loud for the relaxed pub evening that we had in mind. The place was crowded, and our booking wasn't initially recognized, leading to a seating issue. After showing our booking confirmation, the manager arranged a table for us to enjoy the performances on stage. The ordering process at the bar was straightforward, but meals took around 30 minutes to arrive due to the busy atmosphere. Despite the delay, the bar staff informed us in advance. The food delivery was handled by one person under pressure, but he managed well, ensuring everyone received their meals. We opted for the chicken schnitzel specials which were impressive - tender meat in crispy batter with onion rings and cheese, served with chips and salad. The BBQ sauce added a nice flavour. However, the sweet corn fritters were slightly disappointing with some being overcooked on one side. Parking around the area was a bit challenging as there is no on-site parking. We eventually found a spot on Rosa Street just off Boundary Rd, but that was not before driving around a few times. The restroom setup lacked gender distinction, making my wife uncomfortable using a cubicle while men used urinals. On the other hand, my toilet experience was fine as they were clean and well-maintained. In terms of value for money, the food prices were reasonable with generous portions. However, drink prices seemed excessive, I guess partly due to inflation trends in Australia. Overall, despite some minor inconveniences like noise levels and parking challenges, our experience at Sporties was fun, with good food, welcoming staff and a lively atmosphere.
Wednesday and Friday karaoke nights are the best. George,Paula and Merlin are the best host. Food and drinks are amazing. Special shout out to Danae who does such an amazing job at the bar and shout out to Adam too. Chris The Manager is doing a great job as well. A huge shout out all the staff doing a fantastic job. Great place to be and great vibe. Definitley recommend a night out with friend's or even solo. Nearby activities: Drag bingo, drag shows, pool tables.
Having sampled their dishes multiple times, I feel compelled to review their food offerings. Overall, I highly recommend giving their menu a try. Generous portions and reasonable prices make it a worthwhile culinary experience. However, I advise against ordering all their seafood options except for salmon. On occasion, I've noticed a lack of cleanliness in their plates, with lingering off-flavors. Additionally, navigating the dining environment can be challenging, with prime spots often reserved. As a solo diner or couple, seating arrangements may be less than ideal. —————— Been here twice. People and staff here are all friendly and helpful. They also have accommodation functions although the facilities are not new. And there is no private bathroom.
