Very efficient and friendly service. Each stage went smoothly and didn't have to wait long. Good discounts too. Can't wait to get my new glasses
I was never a fan of this franchise in Auckland, but after using the Whangārei branch several times over the past 6 years I continue to be really impressed with the staff and the in store service. My only criticism is that the centralised booking system makes it difficult to get continuity of care as you are assigned randomly to whichever optometrist is available. I had to go in person to the store to organise a booking with the same person I had used previously.
I would strongly recommend against going to Specsavers. I had an eye test on the 4th of March, and opted to trialing contact lenses. I didn’t fit the criteria for the free trial, so paid $40 and was told it would only take up to two weeks for the contacts to arrive. Two weeks later, I rung them up, only for them to tell me that no, it would actually take 4-6 weeks, I wish they would’ve let me know! A bit of back and forth and they tell me that they will call me the following week to update me on any progress. I get a call, and they assure me they’ll be in that week, and if not they will call and let me know. 5 weeks, 3 days later, still no call from Specsavers. I had a fine experience during my eye test, but the terrible service after overshadows this GREATLY. I’m still waiting to hear from them, and maybe one day I’ll get my already-paid-for-contact-lenses!

Very efficient and modern practice with good value for money optical solutions
I have bought my last three pairs of prescription glasses through the Whangārei Branch. Their staff are attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend trying them out. When my glasses need adjustment the staff are on to it. Thank you!!
Edit: Gave this business a two star rating with this review, which I have now condensed: The booking system obviously needs sorting out, as evidenced by other reviews. Made bookings for my wife and me in store. Then got advised that my wife's would have to be changed due to staff sickness. No big deal, these things happen. Then I got a call to say mine would have to be rescheduled as well for the same reason. Again, no problem. Nice staff member asked if, as it couldn't be on the same day as my wife's rescheduled booking, she could change her new booking to the same day as mine to save two trips into town. Excellent. Went in, only to find hers had been cancelled as they had had a message from 'someone' saying she would be away. Went ahead with mine, and had to return next day for a new appointment for her. Staff heard out my polite but pointed rant, and I did say it wasn't personal, but directed at an obviously defective booking system which isn't working. UPDATE: Finally got my wife's appointment completed, and an explanation that part of the problem was a mix up with another customer who shares the same first and second names as my wife, and the staff member had inadvertently phoned the wrong person, leading to the cancellation. Must say, the apologies were profuse and genuine. My only concern is the lack of communications when the local store changes an appointment, but the 'system' sends reminders and offers to rebook 'missed' appointments. The left hand needs to know what the right is doing. We were assured that the system is under active review. Anyway, the service itself was excellent and friendly so all good. Thanks, too, to the accounts manager for the personal apology.
